    Offensive Ineptitude in 2nd Half

I posted a few of these stats in the Messingham thread but think it deserves its own thread and discussion. I researched the past 14 games since Messingham became OC. Here are the points scored by half w/ totals:

    Tulsa - 24, 14 = 38
    Iowa - 9, 0 = 9
    W Illinois - 21, 16 = 37
    Tech - 7, 6 = 13
    TCU - 16, 21 = 37
    KState - 14, 7 = 21
    OSU - 10, 0 = 10
    Baylor - 21, 14 = 35
    OU - 6, 14 = 20
    Texas - 7, 0 = 7
    KU - 38, 13 = 51
    WV - 14, 10 = 38
    Tulsa - 17, 0 = 17
    UNI - 14, 6 = 20

We've had 3 defensive touchdowns [1st half Texas Tech, 2nd half TCU, 1st half Tulsa bowl].

Note that in 6 out of 14 games (43%), the offense has failed to score an offensive touchdown in the second half.

We've been completely shut out in 4 of 14 second halves (29%).

We have NEVER scored more than 2 offensive touchdowns in the second half.

Offensively, we've scored 204 pts (14.6 ppg) in the first half and 121 pts in the second half (8.6 ppg).

We aren't going to win many games with those stats.

Pretty clear that 2nd half offensive adjustments are not working. Also, our offensive line couldn't block the Ames Junior High Team.

Funny thing about facts...they don't lie and are painful to examine. Someone needs to email Rhoads with this.

Do you think you're telling us something we don't know? That's why CPR keeps recruiting offensive talent. Have you seen the current commitment list?

Talent isn't the issue on this. It's the inability to make adjustments that is the issue and these statistics show that well.

Re: Offensive Ineptitude in 2nd Half

It would be interesting to look at the total yardage by half as well, and I'm sure the trend would be the same. It is like we come out with a good offensive game plan, the defense makes adjustments, and we're done. Messingham has shown zero ability to make in-game adjustments to what the defenses are doing. It has to change or we will not win games this year.

I wish you would send this straight to the head coach!

(And preemptively: yes, I'm sure he is already aware of these stats. That's not the point).

Not to quibble, but where are you getting 6? The Tech game? Those 6 points are actually an offensive TD and a missed PAT. Still, 5 games is not good.

Really? Then show me the difference from, say, the last eight years or so.

    Go ahead. I dare ya.

Re: Offensive Ineptitude in 2nd Half

Position coaches: OL group is talented, RB group is deepest position on team & stable is brimming with our best play-makers, WRs are unproven & inexperienced but we have most talent we've had in head coaches tenure, TE is another position of strength-so much so we may run more 2 TE sets.

    Yet...

How does this not all coalesce?

Not a fan at all of Bielema, but as I stated in another thread, a Mike Markuson moment may be necessary if vast improvement is not shown on offense.

Re: Offensive Ineptitude in 2nd Half

Obviously I think the bulk of this is halftime (lack of) adjustments, but I wonder with the no huddle communication ISU uses if its possible teams catch on after hearing basically the same thing over and over and over again.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.
