One thing that no one has mentioned...

Is that ALOT of what is going wrong with our program (oline and dline struggles) lies squarely on the shoulders of our S&C coach. He is an extremely integral part of building a program and in the CPR era we have not been stronger or faster than most teams, not all but most. Now I know our team is much stronger and faster than anything chiz did but its still not good. We were pushed around on the lines by UNI and UNI players who didn't even play last year. 240LB dlineman from fcs should never be pushing around a 300LB big 12 lineman. Baffling. I seriously worry about what Iowa's lines will do to us. I'm hoping that this was all just some fluke or a case of serious overlooking but I'm doubtful.

Our blue collar "workhorse" Taurus got beat by the Shelby GT Mustang and you're blaming the repair shop.

Part of that is the scheme. Zone blocking isn't particularly conducive to the types of pancakes blocks that you want to see.

I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. During the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”
“Because,” says the Lord, “Sandpeople always ride single-file, to hide their numbers.”

All I know is I saw on more than one occasion a UNI DE bull rushing our OT and pushing him into the SR - I suppose it's all technique...

Strength and Conditioning isn't the real problem. Getting pushed around by smaller defensive players is a problem with fundamentals. The O-line is apparently not using good technique in their blocking. Can't be 100% on that though as I couldn't see much of the line performance during the game. Apparently they haven't completely bought into the Klenakis style of plat yet.

Then obviously you never played any offensive or defensive line, because yes it is all about technique when dealing with bull rushes ESPECIALLY against shorter or smaller opponents

Re: One thing that no one has mentioned...

So Yancy is responsible for 3 new starters on the defensive line, new starters at both corner positions (Watson sitting out) two new starters at linebacker, our all Big 12 center going down causing us to move a redshirt freshman to center making his first start and two other lineman making their first starts? Now several guys making starts for the first time have valuable experience as backups but that only means their backs haven't seen much action.

Look at the game on replay and realize that UNI scored 3 TD's on their first 3 possessions. And Farniok went out of the game with 13:33 left in the second quarter. Those were the two biggest things IMO. Along with the fact that our D could not stop Johnson. LB Miller had an absolutely terrible game. Luke Knott was much better. We missed Jansen Watson more than one realized. And our DL and LB George didn't play well either. Offensive play calling sucked. And Netten should be kicking FG's from now on along with Wimberly as the KR.

I watched Coach K here in Arkansas. His lines against SEC talent were not pushed over, have to wonder if the guys reverted to habit last night, especially when the pressure was on in the second half and they were tired. Petrino wouldn't have kept him around had his lines sucked.

Watching the replay right now, our tackles are always in a 3-point which doesn't seem to be commonplace for "spread" teams. This has nothing to do with Yancy by the way, he is one of the best in the business.

By this logic Farniok leaving actually helped us. I know that's not what you meant.

This is speculation from someone with no experience playing organized football but I think that may be due to the fact that in the pistol we aren't really a spread team any more, rather more so a down hill run team. Early in the game with the receivers tight it certainly seemed like we are much more of a smash mouth team then we've been in the past.
