    Where is the Running Game

I think the most disappointing thing to me over the last IDK 8 years with ISU football has been the running game. There is and has been talent and speed at the RB yet they run for basically zilch. They have no place to run. With the shot gun snaps they don't have any speed when they get the ball. This team tries to zone read, keep the ball in the QBs hands too long, have the QB run the ball. The problem is they run the same plays and do the same thing game after game after game after game. Do something different. Put a full back in there at times, pull and guard. Its clear once again the team lacks talent at the WR spot, so something has to be done to get the RBs going.

There is no way the most important player on the team should run the ball that many time, game in game out. Its ******* stupid. Something has to change to put an end to that.

Re: Where is the Running Game

Running game was there today, but UNI was making Richardson beat them on the zone reads, crashing the end almost every play. They brought the safety down a lot, which resulted in that long TD pass. O-line was disappointing, but losing Farniok in the 2nd quarter was a huge blow. In the 2nd half, too many pass calls in run situations when they could have worn UNI down with runs. Too many sacks.

Behind that putrid O-Line...didn't help that farniok went out but I thought Coach K would really make a difference in that department.

It's a long season, always room for improvement!

Re: Where is the Running Game

We did pull some guards. I wish we would do more straight hand offs opposed to zone reads, which can be very effective out of the pistol. Last night I thought we needed to pass the ball down field more to set up the run, which we had opportunities to do, but the adjustments weren't made when we could have gotten guys in single coverage.

I think our wide receivers are much more talented than you give them credit for. We didn't necessarily see that last night, but sometimes our quarterback needs to take a shot into single coverage and trust the receiver. We struggle to do that at Iowa State.

UNI was smart on that zone read. Basically they just crashed in on the RB all night and said go ahead and run your QB all you want to. If you want to put your QB's health at risk on nearly every play.... go for it. And... we'd much rather have Sam Richardson running it than your good RB's. And their plan worked to a T, and of course Mess couldn't make any adjustments to this to beat them.

Did not UNI force the qb to run just like in last Tulsa game? Did UNI try to be different this year on defense and emulate Tulsa? Will Iowa copy? Will we adjust?

The WRs had issues getting open last night for the most part. But yes the QB needs to also let them make a play. It prob goes back to the staff not wanting the QB to take too many chances and be smart with the ball.

No Plan B? Why this was a carbbon copy of the Tulsa game from last year. Maybe a little tight end passing to cool their rush?

That is what every team does. Pile up the middle and force the QB to run the ball outside.

Re: Where is the Running Game

If ISU's OL cannot protect or open holes against UNI's DL, then what the hell are they going to do against a much bigger line (such as Iowa's and others)?

-Be kind. That is something you will never regret. You will never say to yourself when you are old "I wish I was not good to that person".

It looked like their outside linebackers were really pinching down inside more than normal daring us to float outside.

Re: Where is the Running Game

Another solution to crashing the RB on the inside every play is to run WR screens to force the LBs to play more outside. But I think I already know everyone's opinion on that play.
