    Educational kid iPad apps

I could scour the web for days trying to find the "Top 10" kid iPad apps- problem is that everyone has their own preferences for their list.

Who better than to ask the CF brethren to what apps they have on their iPads. I would like to keep them mostly educational as she is 3.5 years old and is really into learning things right now.

    TIA

Something seems philosophically wrong with having a <4 year old on an Ipad to me. Then again I think cell phones are top 5 most harmful inventions of the late 20th century.

I'm 22 I just think the level of tech addiction in this country is bad. Giving a toddler an ipad feeds into that.

Most parents (at least us, anyway) don't use it as a babysitter. We work on games together; it is like a digital chalkboard. It is a medium that simply supplements the learning we already do.

When you have a 6 hour road trip coming up you tell me what they should do besides be crabby, complain, or bother you while you are driving? If you have a device that can be educational why not use it in a good way? Would you rather me load it up with crappy movies/cartoons and let her brain turn to mush?

Here's a tip, her brain won't turn to mush if she watches movies or cartoons for a few hours.

What are those things that have a lot of paper and they somehow hold that paper together and put words on them called?

Have you ever seen a 3.5 yr old read a book? They look at the pictures, point things out, maybe talk through it a little and they are done in 30 seconds. Then they want a new book. At the rate of 2 books a minute for a 6 hr car ride you would have to bring along approximately 720 books to keep their attention. Putting educational apps on an iPad is much more compact. Even then, you may only hold their attention for a short time. There is a time when kids are old enough to entertain themselves on long car rides with books and coloring books and other non-electronic means, but 3.5 years is not that age. I have a hunch you may not have much experience traveling with a toddler, especially as a parent.

My thoughts exactly. Right now my kids are either older or younger than yours, so we don't have many preschool apps. Not sure if your child is too old for ABC apps, but my youngest likes ABC Aquarium, Endless ABC and Interactive ABC. Usually I go for the free apps, but each of these cost $2-5. There are some apps by Lakeshore Learning like sorting beginning sounds and all about letters that may be age appropriate. For a non-educational app my youngest was playing a Lego Duplo app today and my 10yr old was like, "I need to play that!". My youngest also likes a Minnie Mouse puzzle app we have.

I know you wanted kid-tested opinions, but this link had some ones to at least look at.
