    Can You Top This Story?

Lawsuit says Walmart bag's failure led to Nebraska woman's death - Omaha.com
This reminds me of a movie where things moved along to cause a tragedy.

The checker who did not doublebag was the start. The current flimsy walmart bags barely make it home.

The need to be environmentally sound at WalMart by making flimsy thin bags scored another victim.

It's the butterfly effect. An inbred Nebraskan is conceived, and then...

well ****, I should have done this when I lived in Ames. Plastic bag broke going up the stairs, and got me so distracted trying to hold everything that I nearly went into the wrong apartment. If I had gone in and gotten shot for breaking in, could I have sued Hy-Vee?

I can come pretty close to this series of unfortunate events. One time I was trying to make a drug bust and things went horribly wrong. Here's video of the incident. Edit - and yes, this all went down in Mexico!

Re: Can You Top This Story?

Everyone is OBSESSED with blaming someone else in this country for their inadequacies, failures, bad luck, stupidity, etc. And I am kind of a "wal-mart hater" of sorts too, but the judge needs to throw this one out.

Funny story, but not topping it. My GF manages a big, successful restaurant here in DSM and she actually had to use her food comp on a womans meal because she got lost on Hickman on the way and she "claims" she was previously told the wrong directions or didn't hear an employee over the phone and she kept going back and forth on the wrong road for 40 minutes. WHY SHOULD SOMEONE COMPLAIN AND GET A FREE MEAL FROM THAT??? I would never force that on a place because that is my fault I wasn't smart enough to use my gps, google it, call someone, etc. to get to a place...just a moron.

That's a terrible story. I lost a little respect for the (unnamed) restaurant, honestly.

About 10 years ago, I googled the address of an Olive Garden in Ann Arbor, MI to meet another couple traveling through. The site also provided directions. I used them to no avail; there was no Olive Garden any where near. Some time later I found the restaurant and showed my printout to the manager. His comment was that had happened before and maybe somebody hacked the site (I suppose some Univ. of Michigan student could have done then) or corporate put it in wrong. I wasn't looking for compensation, but I thought he would have been more concerned.

So let me get this straight, the University of Nebraska Medical Center is one of the top cancer treatment centers in the nation, but the rest of the medical community in the Omaha area can't prevent a cut on the big toe from killing someone? I guess the conclusion here is that unless you have cancer, please don't seek medical attention in Nebraska.

It's the same UNMC that gave my grandpa 4-7 days to live after his stroke....today marks day 52. He celebrated his 88th birthday by eating cake and ice cream and going on a walk (with assistance) on day 38.

    ....just sayin'.

I know what you mean. All those red states that get more than they pay into taxes from the FED. The Walmart Clan chumming the public to pay the social expense of their low wages. Good thing there are people here to defend the Billionaires from the likes of an unfortunate old lady whose life was cut short for what ever reason. I am sure if something unfortute happened to you you shut up and crawl away to lick you wounds and never consdider finding a resolution.
