*** ISU information regarding Saturday's HOT forecast, please read ***

AMES, Iowa – With warm temperatures predicted for Iowa State’s Saturdaynight season opening football game against Northern Iowa at Jack Trice Stadium, fans are being reminded to prepare accordingly for hot conditions.

The 7 p.m. kickoff time was intentionally chosen because of potentially warm weather in late August.

Officials are encouraging fans to try and stay hydrated by drinking sufficient amounts of water before, during and after the game.

To assist with that suggestion, fans will be allowed to bring unopened bottles of water or empty, reusable beverage containers – which can be filled at drinking fountains on both concourses at Jack Trice Stadium – through entrance gates. Concession stands will be stocked with approximately 26,000 for-purchase bottles of water, far above normal levels.

ISU Police will also implement the following measures outside the stadium for pre- and during-game activity:

    · Golf carts will have coolers containing cold packs and bottled water. These items can be provided to people who are in need of immediate cooling and/or fluids.

    · Pop-up tents will be placed at grass lot entrances to provide shade.

    · Cots will be placed in several of the tents to provide relief to patients awaiting medical response.

    · Mary Greeley Medical Center has been asked to provide additional paramedics to respond to heat-related issues. Two ISU Police officers are also EMTs and all officers are medical first responders.

The anticipated temperature for kickoff is in the mid-80s or low-90s.

This is all great news for ISU and UNI fans who will be at the game! ISU is taking a hit on concession sales, but they're thinking about the greater good of their fan base, that's a home run! Also, the coordination with all the other services being offered is just awesome! Well organized and glad to hear it!

As long as they don't take nurses from the ob ward.

Seriously though, I think it is pretty awesome that they are preparing and working to head off heat exhaustion issues as much as they can.

I think maybe in water sales due to folks bringing in their own. But my take is that concessions will increase due to higher water sales due to the temps.

I'm getting tired of everyone whining about the hot weather. When it is 94°F outside nobody says a thing. But the second it reaches 97°F it's like the WORLD IS GOING TO END.

Don't get me wrong, you should be careful. You should be drinking lots of water. You should wear sunscreen. But that is all important anyway.

But they don't cancel school, postpone farmer's markets, change kickoff times (Drake/Grandview) for that. 94°F heat isn't really much safer than 97°F heat.

Even if it is 12 degrees out you can bring in an unopened bottle water in JTS.

    So relevant. Thanks! (?)

I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. During the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”
“Because,” says the Lord, “Sandpeople always ride single-file, to hide their numbers.”

I would guess that there may be a concession hit as many won't be drinking pop in the game, I know we will bring plenty of water. ISU is also publicizing their water policy quite a bit.

Yeah that is what I was thinking, I always freeze a couple big bottles and bring them in. Never had an issue as long as the cap is still on.

26000 bottles of water for 56000 people doesn't seem to add up to me...

There people that work outdoors all summer long; on roofs, concrete, blacktop (etc..) It will be 97 degrees, but that's nothing to 115 degrees, and ripping off a roof. Drink some water and find some shade if you're hot. I think we are making this a bigger deal than it needs to be.

With that being said, it's a great thing ISU is doing.

Somewhere else ISU said that they sold 38,000 bottles of water ALL SEASON last year. Most people are probably still going to buy whatever they normally get at the game, which obviously isn't water.

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.
