Maybe biggest key to UNI game...

iMO could be the heat. It's going to be as hot if not hotter than any opener and humid. Depth is going to play a big role in this game as both teams will have no choice but to sub on both lines, ALOT. This gives ISU a huge advantage IMO as Isus 2nd string is far better than UNI 2nd string, just the difference in size is substantially different. I know both coaches have said the heat affects both teams equally but I really think this will come into play and be a big part of the game come 2nd half.

If the game were at 2PM, I'd agree with you. But being a 7PM game I don't think it'll make that much of a difference. The sun will be down by the end of the 1st Quarter, and the temps will drop into the low 80s during the game, rather than being a steady 95.

I'm going with same key to season in general -- turnovers. Always important, but absolutely vital to a young team like ISU.

I agree on the turnover point. Turnovers are the key to almost any big upset.

I'm going to say that our biggest key to the UNI game is the fact that we're playing UNI. That's a huge advantage right there.

I think the biggest key is scoring more points than UNI. If we do that, we will win the game.

Agree. We don't need Steele's heroics if we hadn't given the ball away so many times in the last game. Take care of business and we should be up by 17 in the 4th.

I'm going to assume that you would think UNI is going for the upset...otherwise we have some issues to discuss

Count me in the camp that says the heat won't be much of a factor due to the night game start. I think more than anything what we'll see is the on-field display of the difference an amazing strength and conditioning program can make. I somewhat jokingly threw down a 42-3 ISU win prediction in another thread, but I really think that this thing is going to be a bloodbath for UNI - they just don't have the horses to run with ISU short of 2-3 players. Wally will have those guys isolated and neutralized and this thing is over by halftime.

Re: Maybe biggest key to UNI game...

It's going to be 92 at kickoff add in the humidity and the fact tha the temperature goes up 5-8 degrees down on the field and the heat index could be over 100 on the field for the first half. That's a huge factor IMO. Guys will get tired easily and if one defense is n the field a lot it will make a big difference in the game as opposed to a 75 degree day. Unis 2nd string dline is probably more like playing Simpson. Just saying.

You're not wrong, it WILL be a factor. I just don't see it being the BIGGEST factor. I suppose if what you were really getting at was depth of talent and overall team conditioning, then yes, I agree.

I heard from a reliable source that UNI will have the best qb and rb on the field saturday. Stop them, we win.

Just kidding, The heat works in our favor and at least were not playing on turf.

I don't think the field will be that much warmer since it is grass.

Our guys play in a southern B12 conference. Heat will not be a problem. The refs may have a bad night though.

Does anyone know how both teams practice in heat? Do we practice in heat or use the indoor facility or a little of both? And does UNI practice in the dome or outside or some of both?

If we have two turnovers or less and appear to be anything of a competent Big 12 team we'll win relatively handily, IMO.
