But the problem all along has been the fact the NCAA can't subpoena anything of the Nate guy's. He technically isn't an agent, but appears to be more of a strawman. I imagine they funnelled any money through him, knowing the NCAA can't touch him.

I don't believe the NCAA cares whether you are a licensed agent or not. If you sign with someone to arrange contracts for you, that is a violation of the rules.

Did the NCAA suspend him or did Texas A&M?

Iowa Nice guy said on ESPN today that now that he has gotten rid of the Chiz, he'll be going after the NCAA this year. More power to him.

You knew Jay Bilas would weigh in. I got a chuckle from this tweet

    Jay Bilas@JayBilas14m
In addition, I wonder if the NCAA will disallow Texas A&M fans from wearing Johnny Manziel jerseys in the first half against Rice.

Seems to me that he was suspended 1/2 game for signing memorabilia when he knew the brokers were intending to sell them. And if that's the case, they better suspend just about every star college athlete for 1/2 a game, because if they honestly believe all the 40 year old men showing up and asking for their autographs are going to keep them and not sell them - please. I saw it at Fan Fest on Sunday - the mini helmets, the footballs, the basketballs. Every Cyclone athlete who signs an autograph for someone other than a kid knows there is more than a reasonable chance the item will be sold.

You're right. Despite what 3 different people associated to the transaction say, I'm sure he received no benefit for signing 4,000 items. I would be happy to sign my name 4,000 times for good will.

My point is the point many others have made in this thread, which I assume you wouldn't disagree with: they should either give him a real suspension or none. If there is proof he deserves longer, but if none, he shouldn't have even gotten the half game.

Man I've been signing my name all these years for free like a chump!

And a bunch of those times were on checks, where I'm giving someone else money!

I would agree with that - I'd bet that since the NCAA has no subpoena power, and speculate that A&M really didn't cooperate, the NCAA begged the school to give him something...even 1/2 a game. I'd also bet Penn State is kicking themselves for commissioning the Freeh report...

What I would have given to be a fly on the wall in the room that they decided on 1/2 game. Such an odd penalty.
