"When you walk into Jack Trice on Saturday night, take a minute to ponder how much has changed on the field, in the stands and in your mindset; the expectation of failure hijacked by confidence. The stage is nearly set."

Favorite line of the whole piece. Great job Blum!

Blum, I don't know what you do professionally, but you should be writing for a major sports magazine. That is great stuff.

We are on the cusp of a new beginning. The unknown creates waves of nerves and excitement.
Brent Blum, you put the words that are in my head on my computer screen, which then go back into my head. Well done.

    Re: Blum: First game chills

So, I have a question that I think I know the answer to but I want to hear some opinions. We had had 40K fans at a game that should have sent us to the conference championship. Now we are basically selling out everything and wins-wise (which I don't think is an equal measure between the eras due to schedule strength but I don't think the casual fan realizes that) with much higher ticket prices and a worse economy. Why? Is it because of marketing? I don't really think so. I guess I think that the passion from Rhoads has simply been contagious. I think that is a huge part of the difference between the McCarney semi-successful era and what we are in right now.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

I for one can say that it is CPR. I have friends where the wife loved sports and the husband hated them to the point that they would get in fights if she wanted to watch sunday football. CPR was hired and was in the news and all over TV and was seen riding his harley around town ect ect. Now that same guy has season tickets and has recruited his friends to get tickets all because he thought CPR was a cool guy and CPR really annoys hawk fans which this kid grew up hating which is part of the reason he hated sports in the first place.

Fantastic writing! It is hard not to be optimistic with a great group of kids about to embark on another promising season of ISU football. Only problem is the "chills" will be tempered by a day time high of around 90-95 degrees.
