2013-14 Iowa State Men's Hoops Prospectus

2013-14 Iowa State Men's Hoops Prospectus - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

    This stood out to me:

“Bubu is another guy we will count on,” Hoiberg said. “He’s a fifth-year senior that has had some really good moments here. He’s going to have to pick it up on the offensive end this year and from what he has shown this summer I think he’ll do just that. I believe he’ll be our best defensive player and will guard the other team’s best offensive player on a nightly basis.”

Good, I've been a Bubu fan from Day -1.

Re: 2013-14 Iowa State Men's Hoops Prospectus

Yes, Fred said last week on KXNO that he expected Bubu to start and that he's our best ball handler and defender.

The Bubu haters will flip out but I would expect that Bubu starts at PG and plays significant time all year.

He's not been really had a season where he wasn't sidelined for a large chunk of the year so he may really surprise us on the upside.

Fred also said that Kane is more of a combo/2.

    I would expect:

Bubu, Kane, Ejim and Niang as starters with the last spot going to either Hogue, MT or Percy.

Either way, we'll probably have to play quite different this year, with more of a defensive emphasis.

Me likey Bubu starting. Morris and Thomas can get some solid bench time with Sadler, and they'll be destructive forces in 2014-15.

It can only be a good thing if CFH can bring in Top-100 talent and afford to bring them in off the bench.

If bubu is going to be starting five, I think we are going to have some major problems. He is a tough kid with some talent , but does not have the physical attributes or just insane talent for us to be good in the big 12.

I'm really torn over whether I should listen to you, or Coach Hoiberg. Tough one.

Flip a two-headed coin with Hoiberg being "heads."

To be fair, Cyclones2001 didn't say Hoiberg was wrong to start Palo, only that he thought we would be in trouble if that were the case. Palo could be the best option to start at PG and we could still be in trouble.

I for one have enough confidence in the talent on this team that I doubt this is the case; if Hoiberg honestly thinks Palo will start I am guessing its the right move. He (Hoiberg) did state that MT and MM will have some growing pains but are progressing. This definitely holds open the possibility that, say, Palo starts in non-conference but some younger guys play in by conference time, much like many here have predicted.

Speaking of Men's Hoops, the Red Panda unicycle lady that has performed at halftime is on America's Got Talent right now.

    A regular coin will work

    Heads, Fred wins

    Tails, DBQ loses

That lady should just win by default.

Re: 2013-14 Iowa State Men's Hoops Prospectus

Palo has earned the right to start. But to be really good I think he has to look for his shot unlike last year and before that. I remember many times he was wide open and elected to pass it to someone else who really wasn't open. He drove the lane a lot and hit most of his free throws so maybe knowing there is nobody named Lucious or Allen ahead of him will give him more confidence now that he's the guy.

Bubu has shown himself to be very capable at both ends. He doesn't have to light it up from there. He just needs to manage the game and hit his open shots.

its been 13 years since the last time we've had a senior (5th year actually), who's been here his entire career, and enters his final season with playing time in 4 ncaa tourney games.
