ISU offering returning upperclassmen $1000 to leave dorms

Man, we are getting big. I came here in 2010, and we have almost 3500 more students here now

My son a little honked off he had switched before they offered this. Of course, also feeling the pain of paying about a third increase in tuition for juniors and seniors in engineering, in addition to the engineering tech fee.

I think it'd be interesting to be a freshman again. Even in 2010, we still had all the Dens and study rooms as actual community space. They're all "rooms" now. Plus it'd seem like the bathrooms would be overcrowded. But man, there's a lot more excitement at ISU now. I bet that, with even more people around, would make for a fun time.

Re: ISU offering returning upperclassmen $1000 to leave dorms

I'm kind of glad that there were 4000 less people on campus when I was in the dorms. That's a huge increase over 4 years. If enrollment goes up another 1000 next year they won't have anywhere to put them, unless they take over more off campus housing and turning it into "on campus" housing.

I had to live in a den with 5 other guys for a few weeks before getting paired with some loser Comp Sci major who was a senior. Yeah, a senior, in the dorms. If someone offered me $1k to move into a nicer place, I would have been happier then a pig in ****.

I know they're expanding Freddy (adding roughly 700-800 beds I believe), but I wonder if they are considering adding more dorm space.

I knew some seniors in the dorms; they all seemed a little "off" to me.

Definitely do the dorms as a freshman... It's not weird to do them as a sophomore, but you don't have to... But after that, you gotta get out.

They need to get there act together. Not enough room for the people they are bringing in. I'm all for more students, but only if the university can accommodate them.

Is there even room on campus for them to build more dorms? I think they're just about out of space.

Let's see, how do I put this... if you have to bribe an upperclassman $1000 to move out of the dorms, they're probably not going to spend it on anything cool anyways.

I think part of the problem is not that we are accepting more people, but that more people are choosing to accept the offer of admission. Our upswing in sports probably has a lot to do with it

I was a freshman in fall of 1996 and there was enough open rooms that I got my own in Willow for two years. I assume that is unheard of now.

But who wants to live in a true "dorm" environment anymore? Everybody wants their own space. The new buildings are suite-style or apartment-style, and now actual apartments are being used.

I wonder how many more students could be housed in a complex like Freddy if it were a similar setup to Friley/Helser. Double the current number?
