    Apopka QB Zach Darlington

Did anyone else just see that hit on ESPN? Qb scrambled got licked pretty hard falling out of bounds. Kid hit the ground, didnt move, open his eyes and wasnt immediatly put under oxygen. They rushed him off the field and a helicopter just landed along side the field and picked him up. Sad stuff regardless but his father is the head coach. If anyone has heard an update on this kid lets hear it. Weird part was his dad stayed on the field and continued coaching. Final 5 minutes was extremely awkward and sad.

I swore I was watching the first episode of FNL until Apopka lost.

    Re: Apopka QB Zach Darlington

I was watching when it happened. The hit itself wasn't that vicious it was when he hit the ground that he got hurt I think. They said he was conscious when they carted him off the field but wasn't moving or opening his eyes.

Right before the end of the game they said he opened his eyes and was beginning to move a little bit as they put him in the helicopter. Hope the best for him.

Watched it as well. Hopefully they release some more information when updates come forth. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and teammates.

Apopka AD updated his condition as a concussion and he's staying in hospital overnight:

I thought I read somewhere that he might have been playing with a questionable concussion. I hope not.

that was such a great game, its a shame he got hurt.

Must have hit his head just right...he took a lot worse hits than that during the game. Freak things just happen in football...

He likely already has a concussion from an earlier hit but his dad put him back in. Sad for the kid and the sport.

Probably trying to knock off a few IQ points before sending the kid to Nebraska so that he will fit in.

    Re: Apopka QB Zach Darlington

The fact that he's going to Nebraska is a blessing for this kid. He won't have to worry about taking a hit near that hard in the Big Ten.

Remember, you're unique. Just like everyone else.

Until further notice, the Big 12 tournament is best. There's an experience here. Not just the teams -- the feel, the vibe, the establishments. Iowa State not only won the pregame -- filling the nearby Power & Light District -- it won the whole damn scene.

    Re: Apopka QB Zach Darlington

Lower your shoulder, lower your head ... the tackler was going to hit him in the shoulder/chest area until the quarterback ducked his head and took the hit on the helmet.

Which, by the way, will be a penalty on the tackler in the NFL from now on. They say the tackler has to take responsibility for not hitting the ball carrier in the head, even if the runner changes his helmet level. How is a human being supposed to do that? Besides going for the knees every time, I mean, right, Dustin Keller?

From what I'd heard and read before seeing the video, I was expecting a titanic hit of some sort, but it doesn't look all that violent. It does look like the big hurt came when the quarterback's head bounced off the ground, and not the hit from the tackler, but it's hard to tell. If he was previously concussed, this kind of seemingly minor contact can really hurt somebody.
