    NCAA Safety video

regarding new targeting rule. Like it or not this is football now. I hope this is something that is reviewable because with this being a point of emphasis I can see a flag happy ref ready to enforce it and missing what really happens on a bang/bang play

Not that head to head hits aren't dangerous, because they certainly are, but you're just going to move the injuries south rather than get rid of them. Too dangerous in terms of getting suspended to hit the torso, on a bang bang play it's too easy for what was a clean hit to turn into a disqualification, so the solution is more leg hits and knee injuries, problem solved!

Exactly. Head injuries are a serious deal but you can't put it in a ref's hands anymore, so guys are just going to go low and take out knees.

I also hope this is reviewable, because there is no way you can expect a ref (who may or may not even have a good angle) to determine where contact was made.

Another thing I really hate about all this helmet to helmet stuff is that a lot of times it gets called when an offensive player lowers his head/chin to try to get ready for the hit from the defender. So the defender was aiming for the center of the chest (like he's taught) and then the WR lowers his level to absorb it, and gets hit in the helmet. Penalty called is usually something regarding a defenseless receiver, but really that's exactly what he's doing by lowering chin, defending himself.

Just don't hit the player at all. Politely ask him to ground himself when in a reasonable proximity.

Yep, lost my fantasy player Dustin Keller because the tackler went for his knee instead and took him out for the season.

    Re: NCAA Safety video

College football is slowly coming closer to losing me as a fan. I already don't watch NFL because I think they protect the QB to much.

Fact is football is a contact sport and it is dangerous. If you don't want to deal with the contact, the danger and what might happen go bowling.

"Golly gee willickers, Herbie...you mean I could administer a legal hit if I just go low and make it appear that I'm not leading with my helmet?"

9 times out of 10 I think that "legal" hit will be called this fall. Anything that remotely looks like someone was leading with their helmet...flags on the field.

Throw some leather helmets on them and see who's still man enough to go head to head with a receiver.

    Re: NCAA Safety video

It will be a nightmare to enforce consistently across all conferences.

The ejection part can be overturned by review, but the penalty would still stand.
