    Campus in the winter

Ok so obviously there is the bitter cold and the winds that make winter any where in Iowa SUCK, but if you can get past the bitter cold, Iowa State can be a great place in the winter.

    Post your favorite things here

As for me, I love it when it snows at night. The big fluffy flakes falling, snow on everything.

Or today, riding across campus the carillioner (sp?) was playing Christmas carols on the campinelle. And for those who have been away a while, in the winter they light the clock faces with red and yellow lights now (yellow on the North and South faces, red on the East and West)

    Good stuff

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State,
and may her colors ever fly!!!

    Re: Campus in the winter

I have been to the top of the Campanile. It has a cramped staircase that spirals up. It is my favorite thing on campus.

I love turning on the fireplace while the big flakes fall.

    Re: Campus in the winter

One of my favorite things is to walk across campus at night when it's snowing. I don't even notice it's cold outside because I'm too busy watching it snow. I think a lot of students take the beauty of our campus for granted. The only thing I don't like is the 2-3 times I slip and fall on my *** each winter.

    Re: Campus in the winter

I remember being a freshman walking to Parks Library on a January day. The snow was falling in huge, fluffy flakes, similar to what Flag Guy mentioned. It was a moment that made me think I was very happy to be at ISU.

I also love walking on central campus during the holidays--seeing the lights on the big evergreen tree and Beardshear Hall. Haven't done that in a few years...might be time to do it again this year!

    Re: Campus in the winter

i always enjoyed winter when i was a student there. it sucks now that i have to drive 40 miles a day on icy snow covered roads to my job. plus, if it was really cold outside, it's not like you have to go to class. i really wish i was still in school down there. for those of you still there, stay as long as you can.

    Re: Campus in the winter

Never really noticed what the campus looked like in winter. I was too bundled up in a scarf, hat, gloves, sweater, heavy winter coat, way to heavy back pack and a pair of sunglasses to dim the glare of the sun of the snow. But the pictures I've seen are very beautiful!

    Re: Campus in the winter

I once thought about how beautiful the untouched snow after a new snowfall looks as it blankets the campus, and the gentle white flakes falling from the sky, each one with a slightly different shape and size, and a hot cup of cocoa in my hands while watching the ducks pass overhead in a perfect V....then I remembered that I don't have a vagina. :)

Gotta love the wind, especially at the towers. I remember being literally floored by it as I walked along side a building and came into the clear. Nasty.

I kinda miss escaping into the library during those nasty days, killing time between classes with a few friends or dozing off for a while in the comfy chairs.

    Re: Campus in the winter

Ah snow memories from ISU. My best memory is the time some people from my dorm floor and I bought saucer sleds from Kmart and headed to the hill by the Hockey rink. Someone decided to built a ramp out of plywood, I thought i would do my best Evil Knineivel(rip) impression and jump the ramp. Well it didn't turn out well, 45 minutes later I wake up from a concussion in the dorm bathroom with friends cleaning blood of my face from the scrape i have running from my eye to my mouth.

    Ah memroies!!!

    Re: Campus in the winter

I would say my favorite winter memory would be walking around campus after that huge ice storm last year. Although it did a ridiculous amount of damage to campus, it was quite a sight to see...

    Re: Campus in the winter

How about that ice storm we had last winter? We got a bunch of ice during the day, and then it snowed even harder during the night. Campus was just beautiful the day after! I wish I had a camera. :(
