Need some thoughts on a couple SUVs on the market right now

I am going to be looking for a new car in the next few months and have decided on an SUV. At the moment, I am going back and forth between the Nissan Juke and the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. I have a Hyundai car now and have never had a problem and know Hyundai has been putting out better options over the past few years.

Am curious if anyone on here has a Juke or a Santa Fe or if they have driven one? What do you like about them? Which do you think is better? Any other SUVs that you would suggest that are under $30k new?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Not trying to hurt your feelings or steer the thread in another direction, but the Juke has to be one of the ugliest vehicles I have ever laid eyes upon.

Ha, no feelings hurt. I am not sure why but I do like it but then I think about a few years from now if I think it will be god awful.

I got a new 2012 mitsubishi outlander GT with v6, 3rd row pull up seats and drop down tailgate for 22k 6 months ago. I like it so far and received great reviews. When we went shopping, the other options we had in mind couldn't touch the outlander on price.

Very true, it will likely only go down hill from there haha.

I just purchased a new Ford Escape in May and I love the thing. Currently I am averaging over 30 mpg with probably 30% being city driving. Very happy with it thus far. Might be worth a look if you are in the small suv market.

Re: Need some thoughts on a couple SUVs on the market right now

I have a 2010 Toyota Rav4 and bought that over a Nissan Rogue, I know it's not the Juke but same company. I love it and our last 3 cars have been Toyotas so i'm a bit biased. At the time when i test drove both with similar packages the Toyota just seemed to be built better. The lower end Nissan felt really cheap and full of plastic and you had to get the full package for it to feel solid, IMO. The Toyota's lower end felt a lot more solid. We ended up with the Rav4 Limited so it has most of the options and it was also about $2000 cheaper. I haven't been in a newer Nissan for a while so i don't know what they are like now but i know generally they are a great brand. It might have just been the Rogue i don't know.

My friends have a 2009 Santa Fe and they love it and it's been great for them and they haven't had any problems. The Escapes look really nice too as cobra said and i've been in a few of the newer Kia SUVs and they are really nice.

Re: Need some thoughts on a couple SUVs on the market right now

Hard to go wrong with a Toyota Rav4 or a Honda CRV. A little boring but you'll be payed back in reliability and resale. My wife had a Rogue as her last vehicle and it was bulletproof but with 2014 getting a redesign, I don't think I'd buy a Rogue at this time. Actually there are a lot of good choices out there in this segment. The Mazda CX-5 won about every comparison I saw last year. The Subaru Forester is supposed to be nice. If I was in the market the only ones I'd probably not consider are the Kia Sorento, VW Tiquan, and the Ford Escape. The Juke seems like a nice little SUV but for the $$$ you can do better. Edmunds did a nice long term piece on the Juke

    Just my opinion.

I just had to put my '97 Pathfinder out to pasture (247,000 miles!). I have always bought new but couldn't afford to this time. Went with a 2009 Toyota Highlander ($18k) and so far I love it. It has so much room inside it is almost like a tardis.

Re: Need some thoughts on a couple SUVs on the market right now

bought a SUV in February. Took a long look at the Santa Fe but ended up going with the Traverse. Nothing wrong at all with the Santa Fe, the Traverse just fit better with what we were looking for. Santa Fe had good MPG, and Hyundai has been putting out a better quality product lately. But I hope you don't plan on using the third row for anything other than storage.

Do you mean owned by an American company, made in America, parts made in America, etc.? Woudl it be better to buy a Ford made in Mexico, a Honda made in Ohio, or a Dodge owned by an Italian company?

I'm basing this on my own personal experiecne from last year when I looked at replacements for my wife's Nissan Rogue. We ended up getting a 2013 Acura RDX even though I wanted to stay under $30k.

Kia Sorento-Kia has a bad reputation which means bad resale. Hyundai has shown that it can be turned around but I'd wait for Kia until it actually happens.

VW Tiquan-Looked at a 2013 and it was WAY overpriced for what you got. I don't know how they sell one of these in America.

Ford Escape-I'd actually probably look at this one. I believe the last Escape I sat in was a 2012 and the interior was a joke. The 2012 was a lot more truck like.
