    Spacing of the game dates

I think this might work to our advantage, and I apologize if this has been discussed before... So we got UNI on Aug 31. Then an entire week off before Iowa on Sept. 14th. 2 weeks to prepare for a 3rd straight win against these turds!! AND THEN Tulsa on Thursday Sept. 26th. Almost 2 full weeks in between games again. I love this!! These 3 games are really going to get us ready for Big 12 action, and that much time between games gives the coaches plenty of time to work out any problems the team is having. We open Big 12 play against Texas on Thursday Oct. 3rd. Finally we have just 1 week to get ready for a game. Then we got Texas Tech on Oct. 12th. 9 days between games. Those extra couple of days will be nice to prepare for a tough road game, BUT remember what happened last time we played Tech in Lubbock!! After that we have a game every Saturday until the end of the season. I don't know, I was just looking at our schedule, and started thinking how much I love the dates of these games. It's going to be a rough year, but this could help us a lot, especially when it comes to getting the inexperienced guys where they need to be. Would love to hear some thoughts from others on this...

It worked out where we have a lot of inexperienced guys.. Could play into their favor a little to get more ready for Big12 play. A normal year I'd hate it.. And as a fan it's gonna suck waiting so long between games!

Coach Rhoads has often said that he, his coaches and the team like a regular schedule and don't like disruptions to that schedule. That said, I'm sure they can put the extra days between games early in the season to very good use.

Agreed, we will definitely have some coachable moments early this season on the defensive side of the ball.

My only concern is our record when playing after bye weeks and long layoffs doesn't seem that great if memory serves.

We do have a bye week on December 7.

Of course, our last game is November 30, so that doesn't really help.

Considering their performance in the last couple of bowl games they may need that extra week of prep if they make a bowl.

Re: Spacing of the game dates

Yeah, i've been thinking about this schedule a lot lately...mainly, it'll be kinda weird to have some Saturdays open when the weather is still nice! I know there is always kind of a letdown when a Saturday rolls around and the Cyclones aren't on.

It does benefit if we get a minor injury here or there to allow full recovery....but, again, that recovery time may be more beneficial in about October, not week 2.

I do like having a Thursday away game for something to do Thursday night. :)

I'm sure the coaches have prepped and will have good game plans. The bye week does allow for them to have a little more intense practices/more film watching (which can be helpful), but again, may be more helpful in October when some of our Big 12 foes have some tape out there to watch.

I'd like to see this stat. One of you bored students should be able to come up with that:)

The dates for home games suck from a fan's point of view. Otherwise it might work out for the team.

Re: Spacing of the game dates

It's definitely to our advantage early in the season. At the point they will need the most coaching they will have multiple weeks to improve.

Unfortunately that means a bigger(IMO) disadvantage at the end of the season. 9 straight Big 12 games is really going to take it's toll on the team. Look at TT & ISU's finishes last year.

I agree and IMO we'll have to start 3-0 to feel good about our bowl chances.

It'll be nice to take some weekend trips with nice September weather though...and to watch other games I usually miss while at JTS.

I disagree. Typically under Paul I've been confident that we can get to a bowl with a 2-1 OOC record. I personally don't see it this season.
