Re: Camp Report: Monster move sends Irving to DT, Knott shines

I feel like it’s a good switch,” said Irving. “Really, anything I can do to help the team I am going to go ahead and do. If the coaches feel like I need to go ahead and move, I am going to go ahead and do it.
I think this is a great quote from Irving and I am glad he finds the move positive for the team.

Thanks, I was wondering about Luke. I thought he was brought in as a corner, am I just getting senile and he was an LB all along?

Sounds like he is adjusting quickly. I think this will be a positive move, quarterbacks will love passing over that big boy.

Re: Camp Report: Monster move sends Irving to DT, Knott shines

I'm wondering if this is going to be more in sub packages where, say on passing downs, they bump him down inside for a better pass rush? Or is it a one-time kind of deal where he's now strictly a DT?

I think this is a pretty good move. Like Chris wrote, he hasn't been setting the world on fire at DE, and if he can figure out the DT position, he could be a nightmare for opponent's passing games.

They moved Luke to LB when he was on scout team last season.

A QB in HS, Luke was originally brought in as a safety but quickly grew into the LB position, both physically and now (& most importantly) mentally.

Re: Camp Report: Monster move sends Irving to DT, Knott shines

I am no kind of X's and O's guy, so it was interesting to me in the spring game when my eyes were consistently drawn to Luke Knott. So fast! And hitting power! To me, he was a standout in the game (or scrimmage, I guess).

At certain times this fall, if all three are on the field - George, Brackens, Knott - I wonder if that group might be our quickest linebacking trio ever.

I think they just solved that worrisome "Jeremiah George injury=disaster" scenario, Chris. If JG gets hurt, Jevohn moves to the middle (where both CPR and Wally have said is probably his best spot), and Luke starts. Problem solved.

Re: Camp Report: Monster move sends Irving to DT, Knott shines

Expecting Irving to be anything more than an average player is wishful thinking, in my opinion. For whatever reason, it doesn't appear he has elite skills. It seems like he has a great attitude and I hope things click for him, but while it may be a positive for the team, it isn't an endorsement of his production.

I don't bring my own opinions, just attack others.

It'll be interesting to see how this works out. Being tall on the line seems like a disadvantage. But being quick with long arms could be an advantage.
