Kirby Van Der Kamp Named All-American by Sports Illustrated

Sports Illustrated just named Kirby Van Der Kamp to their preseason All-American second team.

    Johnny Manziel, Jadeveon Clowney top SI's 2013 Preseason All-Americas - College Football - SI.com

I don't know though. I feel like Kirby is a hawk fan at heart. I think he will intentionally injure himself before the season begins, get a medical redshirt and transfer to Iowa, then be an All-American punter for them in 2014. Just throwing it out there.

    Seriously--great honor for Kirby.

Why not try him out at kicker? Sorta use him in a Blair Walsh role

Just a sly reference to the first page of the Joel Lanning thread. All tongue in cheek of course.

Re: Kirby Van Der Kamp Named All-American by Sports Illustrated

Forgive my football ignorance but last year there were 72 players with longer averages than him. I want him to be All-American but how does this get decided?

I've long been an opponent of preseason grades and awards. So Clowney gets all the hype so people pay more attention to him. Because they pay more attention to him he overshadows possibly other, better, yet unrecognizable players. So it's all just hype. I swear the kids in 8th grade who "are the best" keep rising not because of talent but because people pay attention to them.

If he would have kicked the ball further, a lot of punts would have gone into the end zone as a touchback. Ball control is where the skill is, not just length.

He must lead the nation in putting the ball inside the twenty. He must have had 20-30 occasions last year.

This is the key. Kirby is a master at putting the ball where he wants it. Seems like every pooch kick ends up inside the 5.

Re: Kirby Van Der Kamp Named All-American by Sports Illustrated

He had 29 punts inside the 20. Only 2 touchbacks. The first team punter had 27 but 6 were touchbacks.

Kirby only had 17 of his 77 punts returned. Florida P had 22 if his 66.

Kirby has better stats all around except punt average.

Why isn't there anyone ******** about our punter being a captain in this thread?

I remember when CPR offered him there were some who were complaining that it was a wasted scholly.

Way to prove them wrong, Kirby!
