    Shane Burnham Interview on Cyclones.tv

When asked about the talent level of the d-line compared to years past..

We've won games with less talent on the field than what we have right now.

I got the feeling from that interview that they are pretty worried about the D-Line, actually.

If true, this is obviously the difference between 3 wins and 6+ wins this year: Talent > Experience

I love listening to Wally and Shane talk football. You can hear the passion and love for the game when they talk.

    Get that D ready Burnhams!

They are just not pretending that it is anything other than it is ... incredibly athletic, but inexperienced ... they are still learning their parts ... then we will see how they execute ... I hear excitement about potential, but not necessarily optimism yet ... look forward to hearing what Shane says in a few weeks.

This. Inexperienced means that they can make mistakes--athletic means that they can make occasional great plays to compensate.

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.
    (They just disappear offseason)

I like our odds with big, strong, athletic guys ... and coaches like Shane, Wally, and CPR.

Makes me wonder how much they will improve over the season. Might struggle some early but be much more salty by years end.

Re: Shane Burnham Interview on Cyclones.tv

He's saying that we have more talent this year than we have in any of the last four. I know they're inexperienced, but I fail to see how increasing the talent level is a bad thing. It's no different than what CPR said - he'd rather have a fast team and develop their experience than a slow team that's played a lot.

I'd like our odds if they were big, strong, athletic 22 year olds.

Believe it or not, Pierre Aka is only 18 years old. Cousins is 19. Coe is still only 20. They're gonna be going up against a lot of guys with their man-muscles.

I think the interior line will be passable, but I'm still not expecting a whole lot.

I'm more confident seeing the size of these guys. It can't be easy for an offense lineman to move a 300 pound guy.

I'm not sure it matters if they have man muscles or "boy muscles" if they are strong enough to compete. Burnham said that he thinks Cousins is one of the stronger kids on the team so I'll take his word.

I'm not saying that ISU is going to have the best DL in the league but if they can be as good as last year (or maybe even better) then that will do a lot to take the pressure off of JG and the other LB's.

If Wally can do what he did in 2009 with the players that he inherited I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt with more talented albeit younger players.

“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”
    – columnist Sean Keeler, Des Moines Register
