Yeah, gonna go with Ray on this one...I can sympathize with the cable cutters for the games that are on the national cable channels, since you're choosing not to pay the cable companies. But for the stuff on the mediacom channel, if you can't or don't want to get mediacom, there's still cyclones.tv, so if you're watching a stream, you're choosing not to pay ISU for their games, which is crap. $80 a YEAR, cough it up, cheaparse.

I don't know much about them, but couldn't a local get a sling box dedicated to that channel and share it with those without Mediacom?

Or you could help out the athletic department and get a Cyclones.tv subscription? $80 for a year! Is very good deal.

The state of Iowa is considered 20 years behind the rest of the world in everything, so it happened pretty darn fast! :P

Why would somebody spend money so that you can steal from ISU? If you want the content ISU has made it very easy to get.

Re: Cyclones TV coming to Mediacom in HD

Building on some of the comments here – I don’t get how it is seemingly lost on some that this is a financial positive for Iowa State and thus worthy of supporting (whether you support it as part of your Mediacom cable service or via online at Cyclones.TV). If you try and circumvent paying or ignore its existence altogether (or discourage others from supporting it) , you do nothing to help either the financial aspect of this channel exisitance or for that matter, the exposure of the product (i.e….ISU) to as many eyeballs as possible.

Yeah…it is painful at times to hitch your wagon to the local cable company (Mediacom or any) , but the satellites cos. are national and supporting ISU to this level isn’t in their business model (or really makes a lot of financial sense). They have ZERO desire to invest in Iowa State athletics and thus don’t. They are trying to be all things to all people and in doing so, don’t have time or resources to dedicate to what they see as an insignificant product like ISU athletics. Does anyone see DirectTV or Dish on the scoreboards at Jack Trice or Hilton? I don't fault them for this, but I understand that as a company, they don't have a local presence in the community like a cable company does.

At the very least, if you can’t stomach Mediacom for yourself, don’t spend time and energy discouraging others if they are considering it given the positives this means for ISU. Again the $$ and exposure only help ISU. It is a forest for the trees argument or at least that is the way I see.

Could you explain this, I'm not familar with this proposal? Would this mean ISU losing their own dedicated channel and moving to more of a BTN type of thing? Would that be a step up?

I"m having a bit of fun right now ribbing my Hok friends since they have to share their channel with their entire conference.

I am just saying I wouldn't mind having an entire channel for big 12 teams. It is better then watching college football live and waiting for a 5 min segment in between segments on how awesome the SEC is

If we could have something similar to the Big 10 network, that'd be great.

But this is also great. I'm not complaining at all.

Should have thrown a jimlad on that post...I do pay for ISU content and wouldn't ever host a stream, if you will. I had a friend at another school who did this for his brother so they could see the local games that were not broadcast nationally.

Well said. I actually probably still have Mediacom for the reason of seeing basketball easily (MC22) and now when this was announced it kept me. I have not had the bad luck others seem to share in terms of service (cable or internet).

While it does stink for those outside of the Iowa region, having this is better than nothing and can continue to make this a true Cyclone State. :)

I too would LOVE to see a big 12 network. I have the big 10 network and it is neat to see some of their programming they do during down times (best of running backs, classic games, etc)...although, still funny to see how they grab old Nebraska stuff and say it's the "best of the big 10" when that stuff happened long before they were in the league.

Re: Cyclones TV coming to Mediacom in HD

ONE more comment and I'll shut up.

I think that the crew at Cyclones.tv is top notch. I wouldn't be surprised if once all of this deal settle out they aren't working on something to make the subscription even more accessible (smart tvs, ipads, mobile, etc). Because darn it, I want to be able to be at a game at Jack Trice, but view the game through a 3 inch screen!!! :)
