Re: Oregon - WTF? I think things are getting out of control

If I were a 5 star recruit and could go anywhere, Oregon would definitely be at the top of my list!

The money that colleges are spending on athletic facilities now have gotten out of control. It's been on the rise for years. It's been an arms race for a while, I'm not ignorant. However, these mega facilities with amenities that are generally reserved for the homes of millionaires are the latest trend. Alabama and Oregon have nicer facilities than most pro teams I would be willing to bet. That is not right. The first role of a University should still be education. That is supposed to be the reward for playing college sports. I know that the ante has been upped, but it has gotten WAY out of control. That is my only point.

I heard that when you go to Oregon, you need to take a break 5 times a day and bow and pray to their new athletic facility. When you attend the school you sign your soul over to Nike

    Re: Oregon's new Football Facility

Gosh guys. With all this talk about Oregon, Alabama and Tennessee, we're feeling a little left out of the conversation.

I guess to a certain degree, OSU got the ball rolling on this. I know several programs, including Alabama and the Vols visited BPS to see what we had done.

Here's a video of our ACTUAL facilities, not schematic fly-throughs.

Oh, and our weight room is twice the size of yours...and we put our money into equipment, too.

    Re: Oregon's new Football Facility

Sorry, no link, but I remember Dan Gable telling the story about how an Iowa State staff member left for Iowa but kept sending supplies (wrapping tape) that Iowa State wasn't giving him. It was part of what drew him away from Ames to Iowa City.

Same dynamic ... different price tags.

    Re: Oregon's new Football Facility

Ha, this is becoming a real contest here! Aside from Oregon's hypocritical, unsustainable, richy-rich center of corporate affluence, and maybe some aspects of Alabama's new facility (certainly not all of it), I haven't seen one yet that really blows ours out of the water. Plus, we're actually following our campus guidelines on performance.

Feeling a little flaccid there so you decided to whip it out, roll on some glow-in-the-dark latex and challenge us to a light saber fight? Sorry, we don't roll like that. Go find an athletic department your own size to pick on.
