I am getting put under by an iv, but I am a little worried about afterwards?? Will I be sleepy the whole wayhome or will I be just half out of it? What can I do for after surgery for pain relief or speed up the recovery time??

    Re: dentist??

I had mine pulled a long time ago. they put me under enough that the procedure wasn't all that bad. It was afterwards when the annestetic wore off, then it was painful. Ice packs worked pretty good for me.

    Re: dentist??

Relax, it is not that big of a deal. I was not put under. I had the teeth pulled in the morning, chugged a 1/2 pint of schnapps afterwards, and slept away the afternoon.

Ames Oral Surfeons does a good job. I left pile in thier parking lot afterwards but no problems all 4 wisdom teeth yanked at the same time. And they put you out!

    Re: dentist??

A couple shots of novacaine and soothing voice of a 350 lbs man of a dentist telling me "All you are going to feel is some pressure." In and out in about 20 minutes. Root canal, I thought was way worse.

    Re: dentist??

Got mine done last summer, got put under.
Take the painkillers on time afterward, keep ice on your face, and sit and sleep somewhat elevated the first couple days. I am the biggest wheenie about pain in my mouth, and it was not that bad. Don't eat right away, and don't push it when you do. It's really gross trying to clean scrambled eggs out of holes. I even ended up with a partial dry socket and couldn't figure out why everyone else acts like they're the worst thing ever.

Oh, and get one of the little syringe thingies to help clean out nastiness as things heal. Best things ever.

    Re: dentist??

Make lots of jello now. You will be tired and need someone to drive you home. I had mine at 8 am and slept tell 8 that night. Then watch your foods. I ate a burger 2 days after and my mouth hurt for another 2 weeks.

    Re: dentist??

It depends on if yours are impacted or not. Mine were growing in sideways and it took probably 5 days before I was really able to eat.

My mom's a nurse and she gave me the best advice when I had my appendix out. The doctor gives you the prescription for painkillers for a reason. Take them. In the case of my appendix, the best thing for me was to get up and walk around and I was able to do that easier if I had taken the pain medication.

dont get put under, the recovery from that is way worse than the procedure. They give you novocain and laughing gas if you don't go under. Outside of feeling totally high and exposed in the dentist office (and the sound sucks) its not bad at all you can't feel a thing. I am totally glad I didnt go under. I walked out and drove myself home and wasnt sick and drousy all day.

    Re: dentist??

No big deal. I wanted to get put out but for some reason(I think it had to do with driving??) they just gave me Novocain. The doctor came in after the Novocain took effect and pretty soon there was a kind of loud crack (they just broke it with a screw type clamp thingie) and she took the pieces out and sent me on my way. Maybe 2 minutes for the whole thing. I only had one done as I've only had problems with one. My bottom ones never did grow in. I remember the area being tender for 3 or 4 days and there was a big old hole there, but really not a big deal.

No matter what, I could NEVER cheer for Dirt and Urine.

.......how is the recovery worse? The sedatives wore off completely within a couple hours, at least for me.
