    Re: 2013 Premier League

I've seen this mentioned on Twitter -- with the way the league calendars work, he'd be in mid-season form for the WC by playing in MLS. This is not the case with the EPL.

Yeah that's true, but he'll be playing against lower competition too.

I'm hoping that bringing in Van Wolfswinkel, Hooper, and Nathan Redmond will push Norwich into a European place. OTBC!

Actually, been a fan since 2006. Had a foreign exchange student from the UK that was a City fan and have followed them ever since. And calling a City fan a "bandwagon" fan is a little silly, as klamath632 pointed out. Hope Arsenal has a good year with all of those new signings.

Because for the money City has spent the last 5 years, they should have won more trophies. How long was your trophy drought? Thought so.

    Re: 2013 Premier League

Spurs are receiving a $9m transfer fee for Dempsey so they basically recoup what they payed Fulham last year. Also, Seattle is guaranteeing Deuce $32m over the next 4 years. Given these numbers this doesn't sound like a short term move for Dempsey.

Clint Dempsey to Seattle: $9 million fee, $8 million salary sees Deuce back to MLS | ProSoccerTalk

This is an amazing get for both Seattle and MLS as a whole. But I have to admit I'm a little disappointed that Dempsey won't be playing in the EPL. I'm not sure what he was making at Tottenham in terms of wages, so this deal with Seattle might be too good to turn down financially & you can't really fault a guy for making a decision that's going to set his family up for the long term.

I'll be interested to see what Klinsmann says about this move since he's pretty consistently beat the drum about players pushing themselves to make it to bigger leagues, bigger clubs, and constantly challenging themselves.

I think he was already making between 7 and 8 million a year and had at least a couple years left.

Totally agree with you. I'm not satisfied with the results either, but I think we are headed in the right direction. Also, 2012 is closer than 2004.

    Re: 2013 Premier League

He'll be ready for WC, so I'm fine with this. It brings tons of publicity to American soccer, too. At first I was really bummed by this. I'm a Fulham fan, and it seems he would have just been better off staying there, but hindsight is 20/20. Bottomline is that if he stayed at Tottenham, he likely wouldn't have got the playing time he needed to prepare fully for Brazil.

Hopefully he can get meaningful minutes and get in better form. Dempsey took the easy money and bailed back to the states, so it would be nice for a US front line player to actually play some top flight competition.
