So what happens when the big offensive guy is rushing at you, and you get back, and are waiting for him to attempt to stop him... attempt to block the shot as he plows you over because there is no charge call? Why would he not initiate contact in that case? He can't have a foul called on him at all...if you eliminate the charge call you don't solve a problem without creating a bigger one.

The NCAA addressed the problem to a certain extent this year, but eliminating it would give the offensive player way too much of an advantage. He could also any time a defender is close to him, if the defender is smaller, just lower his shoulder and plow you over... why not? No charge call...

Let's see if the new NCAA rule change helps... and continue to build from there.

You have to know the word that got censored. I'm not looking to eliminate all charge calls. Just female body part charge calls.

Stepping in front of a committed offensive player is a female body part charge. It's been a problem for years and we all know it when we see it. Even when it goes in your team's favor.

    1. Protect the true seed is definitely worth a look. I had an elaborate analysis of the “Oregon placement” example from 2013 tournament — but his general overview of the situation probably will suffice for now.

0 - rename the "first four" round to the 0th round of the tournament.

Or call it the "play-in" round which is what it is.

I didn't know that the NCAA gave a travel stipend to the families of players during the tournament.

Tickets are very scarce. We had only 350 allotted to us for Dayton!

I will not call it the first round.

In 20 years, my child or children won't understand why their crazy old man is still hanging on to that, but I'm in for the long haul.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

Re: Katz blog: Five NCAA tournament tweaks

Get rid of home court placement for #1 seeds. It inevitably helps some teams unfairly over others because of geography (No matter how good a team from Hawaii is, they will never be helped compared to a team from say, NC). NCAA tournament should be a neutral court for all teams as best as can be obtained.
