    21 games and counting....

Since the ISU defense has surrendered more than 35 points in regulation. That stat might not seem too impressive on the whole. However as you look up and down the conference in the last couple years and see the 40+, 50+, and 60+ point outbursts dropped on everyone from Texas to Oklahoma, it really starts to sink in. The defense has worked hard the last couple years, and only allowed 24 PPG last season...and done so without a lot of highly ranked recruits.

Especially when it was married to an offense that was dead last in T.O.P. last year, and 2nd to last in scoring offense.

I know Wally has his detractors here, and gladly they are few and far between. He put the kids repeatedly in position to keep ISU in the game. Give OU or Texas the Cyclone defense and their fortunes would have changed quite a bit for the better last year.

Will that streak continue through the end of this season? I doubt it, as someone is bound to have an unstoppable performance, but with the turnover and transition at QB...you never know how long it may continue. That can keep the Clones in games into the 4th qtr.

I also want everyone to reflect back about 2.5 year ago, when ISU had a dearth of D-lineman, and missed on some recruits. Panic was overtaking this place, and while the Cyclones D-line hasn't been amazing, the defense as a whole was really lauded appropriately so as the strength of the team the last couple years. Rhoads and Burnham seem to find a way to put it all together. It's not always pretty, but it always consistent.

I think the defense will have a few surprises again for us this year, and perhaps the Big 12 will under go some QB growing pains along the way as well this year, further aiding the Cyclone defense.

I think the streak will end this year.

Surely it won't end to Iowa or Tulsa

I'm predicting that Jermiah George will have 105 tackles against UNI because their runningback is good and our d-line is not.

Agreed. I think Rhoads and Mess would be better suited to use the running game more this year to give the defense more of a rest. I was even fatigued after watching so many 3 and outs last year.

Of course there's the counter that other teams dont need to put up all that many points against us thanks to our offense.

That is impressive considering just how bad our offense has been. Just imagine if our offense was equal to that of our defense.

Or, even if it wasn't equal, at least competent.

Texas was about the only opponent that probably called off the dogs early in the 4th.
OU needed a 4th qtr score to get to 35. Those are really the only 2 games in question.

1 score loses to KSU/WVU(27/31) as they weren't in a position to run up the score.
OSU gradually piled it on with a TD a quarter clip all throughout...along with roughly a 15 minute scoring drought in the 3rd qtr.

Point being nobody was able to just come in and blow away ISU in the 1st half and run away with the game early on.

Wally detractors? They must be commie bastards. I can't see how anyone wouldn't like what he's been doing here.

Yeah, TBH I can't recall anyone trashing Wally on here. If so I'm sure it's the same group of idiots who complain about the defensive backs playing "10 yards" off the receivers. LOL.

What I'll never understand is how teams score so little on us when they dominate T.O.P.

Do we have a stat on Wally's defense holding team's below their season averages? I think that would be pretty impressive.
