Kansas City Star: Fresh, hip and happening Des Moines

Wow just after we learn David Byrne thinks DM might be a nice place to live (but not necessarily cool), the KC Star comes in and does a little one-upmanship by taking it up a notch .

Regardless, good week for DM as far as nice PR from a couple outside sources:

Re: Kansas City Star: Fresh, hip and happening Des Moines

As I've said on the forum before, having DM be desirable place to live means nothing but positives for ISU. The closer we can keep alumni to Ames after graduation, the better for our athletic department as people can stay more easily connected if for no other reason than proximity to going to games and/or being season ticketholders. Also can't hurt recruiting for those athletes that may desire having some sense of an urban environment (albeit modest) somewhat close by.

Des Moines downtown is pretty big for the size of city. Lots to do. Farmer's market there is one of the best around.

Hmm, on one hand, I really like the article. On the other hand, I'm immediately suspicious of anyone who uses the words "Fresh, Hip, and Happening" without irony in the year 2013.
