Myron Medcalf on Hoiberg, recruiting high schoolers vs transfers, and Bubu.

    Good stuff as always.

Good article! Thanks for posting. It is going to be very interesting to see how CFH and staff blend this group this year. I think this could be the deepest team he has had so far, if the players play to their potential.

Kind of disappointed in Bubu saying he's working hard this year because he could play a lot. Sooo... he didn't work hard the last 4 years because he wasn't going to see much PT. If that's the case his attitude is a little troubling for me. Maybe I'm reading to much into it.

You're reading too much into it.

I think it's just a little bit of human nature in that if you know you have a realistic chance to play, you will naturally work harder. Also, he may not have totally understood what it means to work hard at the D1 level in his earlier years and has now learned his lesson. Remember, the guy came to ISU as a walk-on from the local high school.

Or he was just a degenerate bum.

Good article, nothing new here but good exposure. It's funny how ESPN comments have absolutely disappeared since they went to Facebook comments. F that. Trolling was the best part of ESPN.

The trolling is still there, check the Big 12 football blog. The comments are gone, though.

But in all seriousness, I'm a little upset that the comment are gone too, that was most of the fun of reading the blogs and articles. I did find it interesting that he said we could be "a factor" in the Big 12 race, but stopped short of saying that he thought we could legitimately contend.

In all honesty, I couldn't say it either. I think it's a battle for 3rd place among the other 8 teams. Of course, that's why they play the games.

I'm troubled by you commenting on a topic that you clearly don't know much about (ISU b-ball).

That much is clear if you question Bubu's work ethic

Yes, it is why we play. But, honestly-- I know the Wiggins kid is good and Kansas is always stacked, and Smart could be the best player in CBB next year but we had KU on the ropes both home and away last year, and split with OKST (only lost by 2 on the road).

I know we lost a lot of backcourt talent, but I can't help but feel like we've nearly completely reloaded. We lost a lot of defense in Babb, but I think Kane could play like Clyburn and Bubu is more than servicable. Add in what should be two outstanding freshmen in Morris and Thomas, and I don't think we're going to be hurting in the backcourt at all.

With Niang and Ejim anchoring the frontcourt, I honestly see no reason to believe that we can't beat both KU or OKST home or away on any given night.

    I'm really excited.

Its not a matter of working hard. Bubu has always worked very hard. It is a matter of confidence and recognition that the team is now looking to him as never before because the other guys ahead of him are now gone and the new guys haven't yet proven themselves in D1 games.

It did seem a little more thrown together and choppy for Medcalf.

Half the "article" is a quote from another article.
