In order for ISU to gain any type of national attention and relevance (i.e. 9th in pre-season polls) we have to beat teams like Texas. Winning solves everything.
Yes, because if the fans take the attitude of The Little Engine That Could (I think I can, I think I can), somehow that will magically translate into superhuman performance by our guys on the field and we will regularly start beating Texas.

Yep. That's how you build a winner at a college that traditionally is a doormat. The power of positive thinking.

It seems like the exact same argument if ISU should have beaten OSU in 2011, except if we beat UT they probably have a chance to recover and still go to the NCG if they win out.

Alright well I will continue to show up to games thinking we can win and thinking we should win, and everyone else can walk in assuming we are going to get pummeled.

Since when is having a positive/can-do attitude a bad thing?

THIS. The best way to take a program to new heights is to go on message boards saying we're going to lose games. When I'm in a bar and a Hok fan says they're the better team, I agree and buy him a beer.

Of course us having a positive attitude doesn't help the performance on the field directly. But I'll be damned if I'm going to pull a Dan McCarney and start being happy about only losing to the Big12 powerhouses by 3 scores.

After than KSU game last season where we should have won and everybody was mad. Fewer people were taking solace in the fact that it was "a close game, at least." I think that change in attitude is a sign of progress.

Re: I can see UT running the table

I see UT running the table, and will steamroll an undefeated Ohio State team in the NCG, halting the insufferable run of the Southeast Conference Conference. To do this, they will have to find a way to beat the Old Man. That's at home, and I think KState is down just enough for UT to eek out the win. The other key win will actually be an upset over TCU in Ft Worth. The angle is that they got whipped by the Horned Toads in Austin last year, so I think they will saddle up and settle that score this season.

As Phil Steele has pointed out, Texas has by far the most returning talent among Big 12 teams. I think that will give them the edge over the Oklahoma schools, who many are picking to finish 1 and 2. Yes, Mac has had some flat seasons, but his coaching staff overhaul from a few years back will begin to pay dividends this year. Mac also spoke out boldly against over-the-top coverage of the LHN last year, which has handicapped his squad the last couple of years. Deloss Dodds will reign in the LHN, who will back off and let the Horns do their thing.

No Big 12 team is going undefeated. The Big 12 champ will have 2 losses.

I would be pretty shcoked if Texas does not lose a few games. 2 or 3 I would say. OU, @TCU and @Baylor stand out to me.

Thoughts? Tell me in detail which games UT loses and why.
Funny. You see an undefeated season while I see a 6-3 type of season. Don't know which 3 they will lose but I think all of those games you mention are going to dog-fights. Plus TCU and Baylor will give them all they have got. I think TCU will be tougher than the first two on the list.

If they do win out, their SOS should be high enough to make the NCG.

Texas has 3 straight loses to OU by a combined ~100 points. They lost 63-21 last season. I see no reason to think Texas will be that much better this year, and OU will be that much worse.

Ole Miss got beat by about 70 last year. How do you see them reversing this? Do you watch college football?

Two words, and a position. Blake Bell, QB. Nuff said.

So Blake Bell will make Texas 43 points better?

He will score less TDs and his Ints will set up UT TDs. It is actually quite easy. QB is the most important position on the field. Ash was the starter and has had that year of experience and good in game rapport with his receivers. What does Bell have?

Seriously, this is much easier than you give it credit. Bell is far worse than Landry.

Actually, its not that easy, but keep telling yourself what you need to. Id be willing to bet a good chunk of money OU win the Red River again this year.
