    Jonathan Barnes

I posted a while back about a big that was under the radar for the class of 2014 named Jonathan Barnes of Ponderosa High School in Denver, CO. I also posted I am a bit biased, so I would be really curious if there is anyone out there who has seen him play that can provide an unbiased opinion of the kid.

Adidas Invitational: Aytesí 25 and 13 leads Dream Vision to win over Colorado Hawks | Scarberry Media

I can explain in depth why he is under the radar - home schooled, no stats posted, etc., but check out the article above regarding the Adidas Invitational last week. Stephen Zimmerman is considered by many the top center prospect next year and is a 5 star recruit and "Jonno" held him in check while doing more damage.

Jonathan is a legit 6'10" in stocking feet
    33"+ vertical leap
235+ lbs with a body fat in the mid to high single digits
Only 3 years of organized BB experience
Runs the court well and is an true athlete
Strong as an ox - Rock climbs, inverted, etc.
He is a solid citizen and just a good kid
He has that "it" competitive streak and desire to improve
He wants to play in the Big XII (preference is Oklahoma) even though he lives in Colorado

After this week at the Eddie Ford camp in Lousiville and last week at the Adidas tournament, he will start getting out of mid D1 into the higher levels in terms of notice. I am admittedly biased as he is my nephew, but I believe he is legit and his upside is huge. I really wanted to see how he did this summer before saying much more about him. His performance in a May tournament in Colorado vaulted him into the top 10 prospects of that state. Part of the reason he is not better known is his High School team wasn't very good in terms of win/loss record, his coach did not post stats after the games, and when he did they were incomplete (no rebounds, for instance).

Lest anyone get worried I am going to be like some of the "parent" posters of the past on this board, I can honestly say I don't like posting on message boards and this will probably be my last post on Jonathan. I just honestly believe he would make our team better and that CFH would make him a better player as well.

    Re: Jonathan Barnes

See as this is the only info on the kid, I can't really add much to the thread. Putting him on the coaches radar would probably be the best course of action. They have the resources to see this kid in action. A possible Cato hidden in the ruff sounds good to me. Can't coach 6'10" either.

Is this kid your son? I mean, sounds crazy athletic...but not sure what we here at CF can tell Fred about him.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Assume you've let someone know who has connections to CFH so he can at least check this guy out?

    Re: Jonathan Barnes

Seems interesting. Just curious, is he even on Iowa State's radar? Or would you just like to see him at Iowa State since you said he wants to play in the Big 12?

6'10 and athletic is great. However, in Hoiberg's system all 5 players need to be able to shoot the 3. Our last 6'10 guy could stroke it from 3 but I could definitely see him fitting in. 6'10, athletic, could rebound/play defense and if he has a post game thatd be great. We've struggled guarding larger post players in the past (rebounding isnt an issue) and we dont go inside that much besides designed plays so having a big man that can go to work down low (obviously Niang can now) but a true big man would be nice.

I bet you could be our best recruiter. But why not suggest he sends a video clip to Fred, Jamie and every MBB Asst Coach. And use persistent follow up to get a reply.

    Good Luck

Not all big men have to be good at shooting threes.

    Re: Jonathan Barnes

Sounds like a prospect to me. I agree that the best thing to do is just send some tape/info to the coaches and follow up on it to make sure they know about him. Best of luck to him.

I hope it's not your last post here and you can provide a follow up to any news regarding Jonathan. And there's always going to be negative Nancy's on any message board, so just remember to ignore anyone who may be trying to get under your skin.
