Jiri loves the Jaeger, at least that's what I heard while he was at MCC.

    Re: Jiri Jubalek

Jiri! My favorite part of his years in Ames were his visits to the Big 12 tournament where the poor PA announcer could not get Jiri's name correct to save his life. "Basket by Jeery Ooob-a-lecht. Hoo-BAH-LAKE. Who-Balll-Ecs"

That PA announcer was so happy when Jessan Gray came into the game.

    Re: Jiri Jubalek

Jiri drank a whole handle of Captain Morgan after his senior night. This feat alone should have got him on the honorable mention All Big 12 team.

    Re: Jiri Jubalek

    Three greatest Jiri moments:

    • Preseason opener. Jiri's coming off the bench for his first action at Iowa State. Runs to the scorer's table to check in at a dead ball, rips off the warm-up...and he's wearing an undershirt without his jersey. Sprints back to the locker room, throws on the jersey, and enters the game – already winded – at the next stoppage. This is when I knew Jiri would be a legend.

    • The coaching staff's constant uphill battle to get Jiri to learn defensive fundamentals. I remember one game the entire crowd went silent and all that could be heard was an assistant screaming: "JIRI!!! TWO!!! HANDS!!!"

    • Postgame interview after he dominated, "Much props to Coach."

    I loved that guy.

Yep, I'll never forget when he forgot to put on his jersey. Or when Dave Armstrong tried to give him the nickname The Hubalek Plague. Or how everybody in the student section groaned when he launched a 3.

    Re: Jiri Jubalek

I had History 201 or History 202 with him and although it was a larger class, we'd always end up sitting by each other and he never brought anything with him, so I had to provide him with paper and a pen every time (thankfully he missed a good chunk of classes). Naturally, he never gave the pens back. I had to go buy a new pack of Bics just for Jiri.

Thinking about it, I may have actually provided an impermissible benefit and committed an NCAA violation.

    Where is Omar Bynum tho?

“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.”

"I hope to coach here until I retire," Hoiberg said.

Well...he was already getting a crappy car and jeans so pens weren't a big deal.

If looks could kill, Wayne Morgan would have killed Jiri after that.

    Re: Jiri Jubalek

    My best story of Jiri:

He used to "hang out" with the girl in the apartment next to ours. The really crappy apartments on Hunt and Sheldon on the hill. Anyway one winter night we came home from the bars and Jiri's 1976 POS boat had a flat tire. Me and my roommates proceeded to change his tire for him as he had no idea what he was doing. At the end he responded, "thanks guys." That's about all he said. My drunk roommate responded with, "thank me by keeping your *** in the paint." Good times.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

Dude is living the dream. Playing pro ball, living in Itality, scoring a handful of point per game, rocking a sweet pony tail. He's just out there getting his.
