The rocking chair was a great tribute! Also I love Rivera's idea of sitting down with the support staff workers at each ballpark and getting to know them and thanking them for the job they do instead of having a highly public retirement tour, the guy is as classy as they come!

Nope. Jeter lost "classy" we he convinced the home plate umpire he got "HBP" and was allowed to take his base, when replay clearly showed the ball never touched him. Can't say I hate him, but he lost classy then in my book.

Sports needs less guys like this.

We have an NFL player arrested for murder, MLB getting ready to ban dozens of players for taking PEDs, Jason Kidd just pleading guilty to a DUI weeks after being hired as a head coach, and this is the axe you want to grind?
I just saw his wife for the first time last night on television. I thought it was his mom. Not what you would expect from a megastar. Props to Mariano, just seems like a really good guy.

BTW, the chair of broken bats that the Twins thought of and made for Rivera was pretty clever. Most of these farewell tour tributes get a little sappy and silly and all but the Twins hit a homerun with that.

Now I am just awaiting the OPs next rant that Canos parents insulted Jackie Robinson by naming their boy Robinson and that his #24 that he says is #42 backwards is also an insult. And news is Cano isn't hurt too bad by the HBP and will likely play Friday which is probably disapointing to those that like to see people injured.

I honestly like Cano. I also have no problems with Jeter. They both are classy. Wearing 24 to honor Jackie Robinson is a valid tribute. Thinking that Jackie Robinson would be honored for you to continue wearing his jersey after every team in the entire league retires it is arrogant.

I just was surprised that a guy who you know rooted for Kirby Puckett could call someone else out for being classless (over a number of all things). I mean we all root for teams that have guys who do bad things off the field, and as someone who cheered for Willie Wilson I sure as hell won't rant about the classiness of a guy who chose to keep wearing the #42 out of respect for Jackie Robinson.

It amazes me that every single hitter that dug into the box last night (and every night hes taken the mound) knew exactly what he was going to throw and none of them could hit it. Guy has been 100% class all while being the best to ever do something.
Let me understand.. since I rooted for Kirby Puckett, I can never again call someone classless. Makes sense.

    Re: Number 42

I have one thing to say for all you Rivera *** kissers: Rivera kept wearing 42 because he is a arrogant, and didn't want to give up his number. He's first ballot hall-of-fame & I don't question that, but that doesn't compare to Jackie Robinson and the things he did for major league baseball. Rivera should be humble enough to give up his number for that. #BeWell

So I assume the other players who continued wearing 42 after it was retired are also arrogant? Please.

    Just....stop.

Yes, they are. Isn't that the purpose of retiring a number? To show respect for the player that wore it?

Weird that you don't see any Bulls players calling up Jordan to see if they can honor him by wearing 23 this year...

Did the ENTIRE LEAGUE for the first time ever retire a C from being on their jersey? No. But they did for 42.
