    Re: The New Niang

Great article! You could certainly tell last year he longs to be a leader and to be competitive and it's great to see him being so proactive about it. LOVE humble/coach-able kids like Georges, this trickles down to the new guys (I credit Melvin for really consistently being this type of guy as well) and these are the things that will continue to make Cyclone basketball rise to greatness.

I wonder what his ceiling is? I think he will be all big 12 first or second team from here on out. 2nd team depending on if some 5 star guy comes in to the big12 at a place like kansas that is amazing. I can also see him being in a position to leave after his junior year.

Love the attitude and the competitiveness. He's got to be a coach's dream as a player. I get the same vibe from Morris as well. Our bball program is in great hands!

    Re: The New Niang

Niang is staying all 4 years. I got $20 on it with a couple friends. One thinks he is leaving after this year (laughable), another thinks after his junior year, and I think he's staying all 4.

    My teams: (as of 9/20/13)
    Cleveland Browns: 0-2 - .000
    Cleveland Indians: 83-70 - .542
    Cleveland Cavs: 24-58 - .293
    Iowa State Cyclones (FB): 0-2 - .000

    9/22/18 & 9/7/19
    Akron and Iowa State

I think he will stay 4 years in a doug mcdermott sense where as he is playing fantastic, putting up numbers, and winning, but it might not transfer to the NBA well.

I know it is SO tricky if someone is a legit first rounder (the guarantees), but he seems like the type that if after his junior year was making those boards, he'd be the type to want to use that last year to add another dimension to his game and be a Cyclone legend AND an even higher pick.

    Re: The New Niang

He may be one of the most technically complete freshmen I've ever watched, if he can keep getting stronger and faster the sky is the limit for him at the collegiate level.

    Re: The New Niang

It will be fun to watch our offense in 2014-15 with Niang and Nader along with our backcourt. Those two will present match up problems because they both had the ability to beat up small guys in the paint but also can toy bigs on the outside if that's who they're matched with.

Not sure how teams will be able to stop our offense.

    Re: The New Niang

I'm pumped that he is in better shape. There were a lot of times last year I thought he looked winded. If he is now a little bit quicker I think it will help keep him out of foul trouble.

Any observations on our other big guys besides these two? We know Georges and Melvin have big motors.

    Re: The New Niang

“I just felt like at the end of the season that I was getting worn down,” Niang said. “I wasn’t able to give 100 percent at the end of the game. I was working my hardest but it wasn’t my best. When you lose a game in the last three seconds of your freshman year, you want to learn what you can do better.”

Great quote from the young Cyclone. This guy wants to win badly. He has a wonderful mindset and has reflected on last year already. I love it. We need more characters like this and HUGE rewards will be coming soon to Iowa State Basketball (Big 12 Titles and Deep NCAA Tourney runs). I'm looking for a MONSTER season out of the Cyclone Sophomore.

    Re: The New Niang

Saw him at the Rec a few weeks back for the Hoiberg bball camp my son was attending. He looks a lot thinner, should help towards the end of games when he has more energy.

Seeing his emotion after the Ohio State game, I expect Georges to stay until he helps us win the big one.
