    Notre Dame, no big deal.

I am at Notre Dame this week for a class and I was really excited to come here and be wowed by the campus. Maybe I was expecting too much, but I have to say it is quite underwhelming. South bend itself was a dump (at least the way I came into town) and the campus is nothing special. It is actually kind of a cookie cutter campus. I did run into a couple from Ames and they thought the same thing. Other than their dining room looking like it came from a Harry Potter movie, nothing special about the campus. Went on a tour and they took us inside of the stadium, again nothing special. The campus itself was nicer than UNI, but at least 1/2 of the big 12 and any of the big 10 with central campus are more impressive. Guess I expected more. I can see why we stand a chance if we get recruits to visit.

While I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there, my general feelings are about the same as yours. I think I was more disappointed in South Bend. I don't know what I expected but it wasn't that.

South Bend is a dump, Touchdown Jesus and The Grotto were cool to see though.

South Bend is a dump, but I really like the campus. There are less than 10,000 undergrads, so campus isn't all that big. You can't judge the stadium without it being on a gameday.

I think people expect South Bend to be nice since that is where Notre Dame is located. It's a pretty crappy place though

This. The entire campus is covered in blue and gold on gameday and it is breathtaking. I would love to have a gameday atmosphere like theirs but our tailgating tradition is what makes us Iowa State!

South Bend on both sides of the interstate is a dump.
Some parts of the campus look pretty but ISU's is just as nice if not better.
The sports complexes are nice and all bunched together.

Notre Dame on game day was a pretty special experience. Especially since I went with someone who grew up there and knew all the cool traditions to go around and see leading up to the game.

They seriously need to join a conference or they will be toast in a a decade. One more swoon in football will clobber them and I think it's coming soon, regardless of the mirage that happened last year.

I thought NBC was desperate for sports inventory. They will keep giving ND money.

The ACC bent its back just to get them to be an Olympic sports member. Notre Dame says they want in, the ACC would take them in a heartbeat as well as any conference in the country.

Re: Notre Dame, no big deal.

A few of us attended the 1988 final home game vs Penn St. I sat in the first row/field level behinds the bricks in one end zone

QB Tony Rice threw a bomb to freshman phenom Raghib Ismail for a TD right at me.....as Ismail ran out of room 5 feet from me after making the catch. It was a misty November day and ND finished 12-0 and won a national title in Jan. Went to church service after the game....gameday in that season was pretty special. ND was loaded

Since Holtz left I haven't really liked them, and loathe Brian Kelly

You liked Lou Holtz? We always called him "The Devil".
