Well that's pretty far over the top.

Very public case. Pats cut and did everything they could to disown the guy...fast. The guy is guilty in the eyes of everyone - right or wrong.

When someone comes out publicly to defend him - they're gonna feel the heat. Period.

Plus, these guys did it in a fun/playful manner (that's how it's perceived). Makes it even worse playfully defending a guy soon to be on trial for murder.

Never said they couldn't support their friend. I said, again in my opinion, it was stupid. Nowhere did I say the teams should cut them or fine them. Talk to them and tell them to use better judgement might be a good idea. Anything beyond that is not warranted. Still doesn't take away from them being stupid.

and my point is, what could their teams do to them if they decided to continue to support Hernandez? Any kind of fine or suspension would be jumped on by the players union.

Of course the Pouncey brothers want him free. The longer AH is behind bars, the more likely he will negotiate/plea bargain with first-hand information he has on the Pouncey's.

Stupid of them to draw attention to their connection with AH.

Obviously New England feels like they shouldn't associate with him. I'm guessing other organizations would have similar feelings.

Re: The Pouncey Brothers and their "Free Hernandez" hats

I'm amused that people think that just because people have some athletic ability, they're not able to simultaneously be complete mouth-breathing window-lickers.

Are these two friends with Ben Rothelisberger? I don't remember any stories about them wearing hats that said "Beyotches lie about rape all the time" when Ben had his trouble. And while rape is a horrible crime, it's not murder. And Hernandez is implicated in three of those, with the third one being allegedly to help cover up his role in the first two.

They have the first amendment right to make those hats and wear them, but the Steelers have the same right to subject them to discipline for bringing a crapstorm into their locker room. I think the proper outcome would be to have their coach and owner hold a presser, shrug their shoulders and quote Strother Martin from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid"....

"Morons. I've got morons on my team."

Quint would wear a "Free Hernandez" hat. He's that big of an ***-hole.

I think it's pretty realistic that they could trade or cut them if they continued to show public support for Hernandez. The Rooney's have always been quick to jump on these kind of situations where a player is making the organization look bad. Superstar QB's not included.

No, it's not realistic. They would not cut their 3 time All-Pro lineman over his decision to wear a hat. His lawyer would have a field day with that.

You and I both said if they continued against the obvious wishes of the Rooney's, so it wouldn't just be about the hat. The Steeler's have a reputation for parting with their big time players pretty easily.

I said "continued their support." By that I meant, wearing the hat. The Rooneys can ask him not to wear it, but they have no realistic way to make that stick. There's zero chance he'd be cut over it. First, it would be just stupid. Second, there's a potential for an even bigger PR issue for them if they cut/punished Pouncey for simply supporting Hernandez.

They've always put the organization above individuals so I sincerely doubt they agree with you that protecting the reputation of the family business would be "stupid".

You really think after the public reaction to this that they would have a PR problem? Players might ***** about it, but if that had any effect on the most successful NFL franchise's ability to attract players I'd be shocked.
