We might luck out with a double McDermott situation, if one of the boys is good enough to play bball, but I don't know them at all.
I think worst case is they are offered football scholarships and lead the football team to 4 bowl wins. No pressure though.

So...do I start panicking now? Or...are we waiting until basketball season? Let me know, so I can procure a jug of moonshine to get me really fired up. I riot best when all drunked up.

Sounds like it might have been a joke... maybe.

    Here's the quote.

"I know he's committed to us, and even after Brad Stevens got the job, he texted me, he said 'Boston offered me the job, but I turned it down.' He said he had enough of Boston dealing with me. So, he's a funny character like that. I mean, whatever he has in his plans, that's for him, but I'm almost positive that he's gonna stay around here and be dedicated to Iowa State for the next couple of years."

    Couldn't agree more.

And seriously, why would Fred jump? He can print his own ticket in Ames.

this is only good news for ISU fans. First of all, as many have stated, NBA teams offering jobs to your head coach means you have a kick *** coach. Second, if Fred turned down that job then I feel pretty confident he's planning on staying in Ames for awhile.

Pretty awesome for us to have a couple guys like Niang and Ejim who can put up dominant numbers on the court, but also really easy to cheer for off the court or great to listen to in interviews. Get the feeling both of them can have basketball careers but could be successful in anything non-basketball too.

Yeah, I think it's hard to tell how literal to take that comment. I think it easily could have been him being contacted about the job but saying he wasn't interested. Then playing it up for the joke when he texted Georges, or Georges exaggerating on his own a little too.

Re: Niang tells KIMT 3 Hoiberg was offered Celtics job

We all know CFH is highly thought of by the NBA and he will be offered a number of jobs during his tenure here.
The Silver lining for me is the Boston Celtics is a premium job in the NBA and he turned it down, something Brad Stevens couldn't do. Granted this year has the potential to be a train wreck for the Celts but, with all the future picks and money to spend they can rebuild pretty quickly. While I do agree the NBA will be in his future if he chooses, it isn't his goal to just get to the NBA and take a Bobcat type low end job just to get in. He will be very selective of his next opportunity and if/when he is willing to make the jump.

    Another point of view...
    1. Fred let Niang leak this info, knowing people will talk about it.
    2. Word gets to our high profile recruits that Fred is a top level coach that prepares you for the NBA
    3. They commit
    4. Win championships

That is a great interview. Great questions, great answers. And how big is that reporter? He makes Niang look small.

As for the Hoiberg Celtic's offer, that was a Boston joke, not a scoop.

Niang does a great job in this interview. He is going to get lots of media attention, both because of his play and his ability in interviews.

Appreciate his honest response about the Ohio State game and how he uses it to "get himself up in the morning" so that he can get better. "To be the best, you have to beat the best."

Re: Niang tells KIMT 3 Hoiberg was offered Celtics job

    1. It kind of sounds like Georges was joking.

    2. Hoiberg would have been a more logical choice than Stevens if Boston was going to go with a college guy. I don't necessarily buy the line that Stevens was their first choice. I'd be shocked if Hoiberg wasn't contacted.

    3. I like how some of you are all zen about how Hoiberg will eventually go to the NBA. I am not that zen about it. It would suck. I would be mad. I would be sad. We could write a whole Dr. Seuss book about my feelings. I don't want him just sticking around for his kids to graduate (which I don't necessarily think is what he would wait for anyway). I want him to stick around for 15 or 20 years.

    4. At the same time, those of you who act like Hoiberg is never going anywhere are delusional. He listened enough about the Minnesota college job for the rumors to start flying about him being looked at there. He's repeatedly talked about how much he likes the NBA game. He seems to be more open to exploring possibilities than we would like.

    5. I cannot emphasis this enough.....he has already been and will continue to be on most college coaching short lists and probably just about every NBA shortlist. I am guessing he could have had the USC, UCLA, and Minnesota jobs this offseason had he really wanted them. And I am guessing that he would get very serious consideration on any of the NBA openings.

    6. Even though this is going to cause me anxiety every year it seems like (and it won't just stop in April when the CBB open up....we'll be going into June or July with the NBA), it IS pretty cool that our coach is so sought after. He's a star. Can you imagine if Jamie hadn't taken that chance with him?
