    Well this was interesting

    Texas v Iowa State 2002 - YouTube

This was such a frustrating game to watch, not because we got our tails kicked (we didn't) but the fact we couldn't finish drives, missed fgs, and dropped passes. I will say that if OU would have come later in the schedule and not written the blueprint on how to beat us that year before we went through the gauntlet that was the 5 game stretch of OU/UT/Mizzou/CU/KSU with 4 of them being on the road that we beat this Texas team and potentially CU. There is no way the Texas braintrust would have figured it out before the Stoops brothers giftwrapped the gameplan for them. Something about 1 national title in the last 40 years with the unlimited resources and recruiting ability they have doesn't add up. That coaching staff has done less with more than anyone.

IMO this was Coach Mac's best showing against a top 10 team not named Iowa in his tenure. I think we caught FSU early and they didn't turn out to be that great that year.

First and goal on the 2 midway through the second quarter -- no points.

That's as far as I needed to go.

"Interesting" is misleading in the thread title. I can think of several other words that I would use.

I refuse to click on that link and suffer through that again.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

    Re: Well this was interesting

I was at that game in Austin in '02 and it was one of the most frustrating games I saw in the Mac era. We had tons of chances to take control of that game and just never got it done. If we could have somehow pulled that game off, it would have eased some of the sting of the beatdown in Norman the previous week. Could have built a little momentum for the tail end of the season instead of the implosion that we all witnessed. Oh well, what could have been (pretty much the tagline for the Mac era).

You knew it wasn't ISU's day when Chris Simms went backwards on a QB sneak and was still awarded a first down.

    Re: Well this was interesting

I hate to be a Mac basher here, but this was just one of many games that guy coached that frustrated the hell out of me. Texas Tech '02, (can't remember what year the Blythe domination game in College Station) and then Iowa and CU '05 are really the only game I can think of off the top of my head that kept getting better as the game went along. Mac coached teams usually faded down the stretch and hung on for Dear life. I'm sure there were more, but that guy never liked to put the hammer down on anyone, or turn it up to try to win. Remember that phrase your little league coach always used, "don't play to not lose." that's what I always felt like Mac was doing, playing not to lose.

The beatdown we got from Stoops in his first year at Norman when he had a "passing" team and they then ran for a NCAA/NFL/Canadian League/Pop Warner LeAGUE REcord number of yards was when I realized it was always, always going to be Lucy yanking the football away from McCarney Cyclone football.
