Pics of yours truly with Barry Stevens and Jeff Hornacek

As some of you know, my dad passed away in April and I've been going through his stuff. This weekend I found this gem.

Background: Back in the day, my dad was on the board of the Linn County Cyclone Club (now Cedar Valley.) They had an annual event, I guess similar to the tailgate tour, only for some reason this particular year it was a morning breakfast event. Jeff and Barry were the guests of honor and rather than coming over really early in the morning, they came the night before. They needed a place to stay and my dad must have raised his hand first. It was a complete surprise to me and the friend I had spending the night that night (the blond fella; I'm the incredibly handsome dark-haired guy). Rod Wilson, who some of you may know, brought them over in his van and they arrived I guess about 9pm. I remember Barry had not seen the Michael Jackson "Beat It" video yet and I had just recorded it on Friday Night Videos!

Barry and Jeff both kept in touch for a while after their visit. Jeff stayed at our house another time when he was in town for a softball tournament. Barry, Wes Wallace and Lefty Moore came over for dinner once a year or so later when they were in town for a charity alumni game at Linn-Mar against a bunch of former Hawks. Barry and crew kicked their *****! I even got to go in the lockerroom after a couple games in Ames. Boy, did I think I was the ****. Later, Barry was a regular dinner guest at our house when he played CBA ball in CR.

Anyway, the years passed and they went on to bigger things and we lost touch. I was able to shake Jeff's hand at his ISU Hall of Fame induction and that was when he signed the photo. I believe it was taken the spring before Barry's senior year, so I'm guessing 1984 or thereabouts.

    Hope you enjoy it.

Very cool. These days you'd probably get the program hit with a violation for letting the players stay at your house.

Great Stories. My family was what they used to call guest hosts on "Unofficial visits'. We had Darrin Davis, Peanut Fryer and a bunch of others over to spend the night.

Darrin and Troy Davis hung out at our house because My dad would always cook them steaks when they came over.

I remember hanging out with Peanut Fryer and his older brother Irving Fryer was terring it up at nebraska. I was so young. I looked at him and ask him. "Why would you come to Iowa State if Nebraska wants you to come to Nebraska"? He said that he was not sure if he wanted to follow his brother since his brother was so good. Turns out he followed his brother.

It's pretty funny. I have a ton of pictures of the Davis brothers eating steaks at my house with me

Funny how you picture other posters. I always pictured you as much older, Rux.

Barry paid us a home visit once right after his eligibility ended 1985. Nice, polite--true gentleman.

    RIP... Barry

    Great story & pic.

Barry's hat is sweet. Don't know about your friend's Members Only jacket though (because back in those days I had one too).
