Stopped to eat at old ISU Campustown mainstay in Lincoln yesterday

I'd think anyone that went to Iowa State until about ten years ago will remember DaVinci's in Campustown. I used to eat there ALL the time. Hands down my favorite pizza in Ames when it was there. Unfortunately it closed about ten years ago, but all the same sister locations in Lincoln, NE are still alive and doing great.

We stop as much as we can driving from IA to CO at a location in Lincoln. Stopped there yesterday and the manager from the old Ames location runs a couple in Lincoln. Still same menu, same great lunch specials, same great food. I wish that place never left Ames.

Will be going there again on our way back from Denver next week.

You know their bbq and chicken cordon bleu pizzas? You're welcome. We invented those in Ames and management ran with it. DAMN YOU KELLY KNUDSON!

Pepperoni and cream cheese on the Friday before home games. Don't knock it until you try it.

When I worked there I gained a ton of weight. Part of that reason was my cheesesteak (chickensteak) Had mushrooms, chicken, onions, white american cheese, cream cheese, pepperoni, and sometimes black olives.

We loved those, especially the cordon bleu! As for the phillies, I'd always do chicken. But I couldn't ever get through more than about half.

That place was fantastic. I remember after the final for ME 421 (a.k.a. "God Hates You"), Dr. Leuke took us there for pizza and beer because the final was so rough.

Doggy bag! Two meals for the price of one!

It really was! And those pizzas had so many toppings that I could only ever eat about one piece.

Cheese Steak with pizza sauce and hot peppers mixed in = heaven to a broke-*** college student.

So nice to have one of these down the street from my house. Not sure if I would give them the title of Best Philly, but they are really good.

ISpy - a friend of mine was in Lincoln last night for work, and was telling me how awesome Lead Belly is. Is this the case, or is it secretly terrible and overblown like Runza?

As with most places, it depends on the chef. I made myself ill on those things but kept coming back for more.

Awesome place. Not sure why it closed in Ames but I was depressed when it happened. Their lunch specials for the quality of food was insane. Mini pizza with four pieces of garlic cheesebread (which is still unbelievably awesome as well) and a drink for like $5.25.

When I worked in the athletic department as a student our office ate there several times a week. Bring it back!

Re: Stopped to eat at old ISU Campustown mainstay in Lincoln yesterday

I can probably guess why they closed. Managed poorly and employees walking off with free food too much. They also lost their alcohol license when I was there so that took away from the experience as well for customers.
