Go to Mexico or Jamaica or somewhere and skip the cruise.

Yes^, skip the cruise and go to an adults only all-inclusive resort somewhere. Cruises are overly crowded with annoying people and have worse food in my experience.

Re: What cruise line is the best?

We went on a Norweigan cruise last spring and were very happy with it. We were on the Epic on a 7 day eastern caribbean trip. The Epic has The Blue Man Group, Second City, and "Legends in Concert" (impersonations of famous musicians...it was meh) all for free numerous times during the week. They also have Cirque du Soleil every night as a dinner show which costs extra but was awesome. It supposedly has 10+ places to eat (several free including a buffet style and several sit down places that were nice). There are also countless bars but remember they make their money off of the alcohol, a six was $25. They also have the normal on board entertainment (dj's, several pools, slides, casino).

The best part imo was the rooms. We had a balcony and without a doubt they have the biggest balconies of any ships we have seen. They also have more balcony rooms than any other cruise line. There is just something about sitting on your balcony relaxing and watching the sun come up in the middle of no-where or while you are pulling into or leaving port somewhere being able to see everything better.

No matter which cruise line you go on they will all have plenty of shore excursions to go on.

Re: What cruise line is the best?

I've always had a low opinion of Carnival and I would say recent troubles seem to support this belief. Some things weren't meant to be done on the cheap and if you do, you pay for it.

We went through Princess Cruises for our honeymoon on a recommendation of a well travelled individual and were not disappointed. They do target a bit older demographic, but I don't think that lessens the experience and you could argue adds to it as helps keep out hard, obnoxious partiers. A few recommendations:

    * it is your honeymoon - splurge and get a cabin with a balcony. You'll often hear people recommend getting an interior cabin to save money because" you're never in the cabin". Well...you're not, if you're stuck in an interior room with no windows. There's nothing better falling asleep in the pm and than waking up in the a.m. to the sounds, sights, and smells of the ocean through the open door to your balcony.

    * sign up for formal dinners. At first I was completely against hauling formal wear along, but I'm glad I was talked into it. Very nice way to end your day with great sit down meal with individuals you begin to get to know quite well by the end of the cruise. (and this is coming from somene who leans towards introverted). The food and service is terrific and you really need a break from the buffet lines.

I would say people that don't like cruises feel this way for several reasons: they tried to do it on the cheap and thus were underwhelmed by Carnival (or the like) and stuck in a cabin without an ocean view while eating each meal at the buffet line. Note: I will grant that some individuals by their nature have trouble relaxing when they don't feel more in control of their environment. Some can feel confined being on a ship for a week. Nothing you can do about this except avoid taking cruises. It is not going to be your thing.

I've only been on one cruise and we went to the wester caribian with Princess and had a blast! If you want to extend your "vacation" Carnival has a habit keeping people for a little longer than they originally planned...

Re: What cruise line is the best?

2nd Princess. You may pay a little more but it is a hassle free trip. We upped for a suite (no balcony) for one and we'll never go with an interior cabin again. The room was actually a welcome place to go rest on occasion.

Re: What cruise line is the best?

My last cruise was a Carnival cruise. I got a balcony room on the top level. I second everybody who says to get an ocean view. You don't want to be trapped inside.

Carnival is cheaper, so you get a little more...um...redneck-ness on your cruise. For example, on the "formal dinner" night, the family seated a few tables over from us thought that LSU jersies were appropriate attire.

On the flip side, since Carnival is cheaper, you will have more young folks on board who wouldn't be able to afford to go on one of the pricier cruise lines.

Which cruise did you go on? I've been on 5 cruises (2 Carnival, 2 Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian) and the food has been great. If you don't go for the newest megaships and get on one of the smaller ones there isn't the problem with crowding. Also, if you don't like crowds, stay away from the Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Jamaica route; everyone goes on that one. My favorite ship was the Carnival Spirit and best destination was either Costa Rica or Hawaii. And like everyone else has been saying, don't get a inside room. Get one with a balcony. It's worth it.

Re: What cruise line is the best?

My wife and I cruise Princess. They have a consistent reliable product, and less kids. There are more seniors, but with that you get a more polite and relaxed experience. Their food in the dining room is of a very high caliber cuisine wise too, and now all their ships have espresso/capaccino bars. for Alaska cruises, Princess also has some of the best routes available, and is the only cruise line allowed to go up the Tracy Arm Fjord which makes for an AMAZING day.

Carnival should be cheap by now!

I've never done a cruise, so I'm with bos. Go to Couples Negril (or any of the Couples' resorts, really the jacuzzi tubs and walk-in showers at San Souci? yes please!)......we just got back and it was awesome. I was not completely overwhelmed with the food, but the beach was ah-ma-zing.

Re: What cruise line is the best?

My family and I have taken a cruise for our family vacation the past 5 years. I would say royal carribean is everyone's favorite in our group. The food on MSC was junk, which made me so thankful that we live in the best place in the world for meat. Celebrity was ok, but not as good as royal carribean imo.
