    Internet options in central Iowa

I've had it with Mediacom. Are there any other high-speed options?

Yes, but you likely won't be satisfied with them either.

I was forced to use centurylink because mediacom wasn't in my area, and thought it was the worst internet I have ever had.

Re: Internet options in central Iowa

the max speed centurylink offers in the part of Ames I live is only 1.5 mbps. That's just too slow. So, I pay through the nose for mediacom.

I can't remember the exact number, but it was suppose to be in the 7-12 range. I think actual speed was probably half of what I was suppose to have and I wasn't located in area that had high speed.

Edit: it may have been 3, now that I look at packages.

On a serious note if you are in Ames you're choices are ICS (local high speed internet company) and Century Link DSL.

My complaint would be it seems the number of people that can actually get that speed package is very small, at least in Ames.

Re: Internet options in central Iowa

I've had the 7 mbps with Centurylink for 5 years now and it's never gone out once and it's always above 6.5 mbps. They are generous with credits and I don't think i've ever paid more than $19 per month for it. Very satisfied.

I live in Ames near the High School and the Centurylink website says I can get the 1.5mbps package, which would be fine if it were 1998.

Indianola just got fiber optic through MCG, which put the nail in the Mediacom coffin for me.

Just signed up for 50 Mbps for $30/ month

Website says I can get 7 also. I'm a little leery though. I work from home and have to transfer a lot of files back on forth. Not sure how much 7 would slow things down.
