Des Moines metro area's only Hooters closes

No big loss. You can only be mediocre (in several ways) for so long and get away with it.

I'm sure Twin Peaks was the final nail in the coffin.

As an aside - I always saw Daytona's (on Merle Hay) as a poor man's Hooters. This closing is probably welcome news to them.

The only Hooters in West Omaha closed awhile ago also with no big loss to the restaurant community.

Twin Peaks is the place to go now!

Re: Des Moines metro area's only Hooters closes

I liked hooters wings, but the place needed a major facelift, both in terms of the old and dirty restaurant and the outdated brand of the chain. Hadnt been there in years now, and Twin Peaks is much better.

That's a pretty prime location for something to go in in its place, being right on 22nd right off 235, hope something good can come in and replace it.

Let's not celebrate the downfall of a chain started by an ISU grad.
Drove past the original in Clearwater FL many times but never actually stopped in.

As population continues to spread outward (west and north), areas like 22nd will start to get left behind. That strip mall behind it is already becoming a dump as is the one across the street where the new QT is. I doubt you will see anything good take it's place there.

For years now people have said they need to change, modernize and become basically what twin peaks became. I dont see how it was that hard to fix. Its their own fault.

I'm kinda surprised to hear this and kinda surprised it took this long.

Twin Peaks is better in every way: food, beer selection, building, parking, access, scenery.

I've never been to either restaurant but can someone tell us what the difference are? I sense the same exact theme.

I agree and there goes the last chance of a Hooters SEZ project.

This. I have been driving down 22nd daily for a number of years now and it seems like everything is getting worn down and/or closing up shop. Mcaffeys Steakhouse has been sitting empty and for sale forever now, lonestar is closed, the old taco bell building is sitting empty.. and so on and so forth. Its crazy to think how quick times change and areas change.

Stuff will fade as it reaches the end of its era, but it presents opportunities for redevelopment. That street is always packed with traffic, which means it has plenty of opportunity for business.

Re: Des Moines metro area's only Hooters closes

Hooters is already going through a company wide revamp including remodeling stores, changing the menu, and trying to target women as customers. For all we know maybe it was just going to cost the franchise too much to remodel and they just decided to pack it up.
