    Ames Tribune Recruiting

    Football: There

"Iowa State defensive tackles coach Shane Burnham sends handwritten letters to recruits once a week, highlighting different aspects of the football program."

Recruiting doesn't end, "So before he took off for a multi-week family retreat, he wrote every handwritten note that would be sent to recruits while he was gone."

Once a week sends a letter to the player and one to the parents as well. Staff thinks they have a good chance to get commits if they can get them to visit, which is tough for him recruiting Florida as most do not attend camps or take unofficials.

Which helps explain why we don't yet have any commits from Florida--which some people are"surprised" about.

The sky is the limit. We are trying to win every game. We are going to try to get to that big stage, the Final Four, and play on. Morris (May 2014)
“If you take a look at this group, we’re extremely talented 1-15. We have a lot of talented guys in this locker room — all guys who are willing to put their agendas aside to win. That separates good teams from great teams.” Niang (Oct 2014)

If you watch the Cyclone Feud videos, you sometimes see Coach Rhoads writing notes that sound much like what Shane talks about.

Interesting read. I talked to Shane in an airport security line for about 45 minutes a while back. He is a really nice guy and really knows his stuff
