I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. During the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”
“Because,” says the Lord, “Sandpeople always ride single-file, to hide their numbers.”

Hahaha, I've been mostly ignoring this thread (cause it started with a really stupid thread title and then Cubs has just been saying stupid **** to troll) but this the funniest hate for soccer comment I've ever seen. Taking away the offside rule in soccer would be like taking away offsides in hockey (i.e. would ruin the game). If you can't maintain a backline then the entire game would be about cherry picking and the space in the middle would be immense. That would mean A LOT more running through the middle with no pressure which would essentially turn the game into running into the attacking third, trying to attack, then running back the other way if you turn it over. It'd be like basketball on a 120 yard field. I'm trying to think of a football rule analogy but nothing quite fits. Just imagine the second to last defender in soccer is the line of scrimmage in football and then it makes perfect sense why you have to have that rule.

It would be a different game for sure. Not sure if I agree it would "ruin the game." I also never said I hated soccer, just said it's an annoying aspect and most people don't know the rules enough to know why the ref stopped the action right at its climactic point.

If there was no consideration of having to time runs it would certainly take away a huge aspect of the attacking part of the game, not to mention stretch the field even more like Otter said.

It's not a hard subject to grasp if you want to understand the rule.

When the ball is played, you have to be even with or on the defensive side of the last defender on the opposing team. Take that out and Cubs would finally be right, soccer would suck.

I do understand your point though, it actually just reminded me of the Italy beating Japan 4-3 late and Japan having a goal taken back in something like the 88th minute, but he was truly offsides. That was an incredible game and Japan deserved to win based on my viewing of the second half but such is sports. Linesman are extremely accurate on their offsides calls, it's not normally controversial like the block/charge calls, or so many others in sports. One thing I like most about soccer is that the refs are incredible compared to the crap I see in football and basketball. Unless they pull out a knife and stab someone, that is.

So I think we all agree then. Soccer sucks unless you're dirty and poor.

The only reason soccer fans are so nuts is because it's played in poor countries that can't afford to play real sports, that require more equipment than a crappy old ball.
The flopping used to be a pretty legit knock on soccer, but now it seems to be more prevalent in the NBA. It is still an issue in some areas and with some leagues, but flopping has declined in general. Some would argue that "prancing" around for 90 minutes takes more athletic ability than standing in your position and grabbing at your crotch for 9 innings and maybe running the bases once or twice per game.

The "only poor/dirty countries play soccer cause all they need is a ball" narrative is dumb. I am sure every kid in these same countries can find a decent sized stick and round rock to play baseball if they wanted to. They don't.

25 foul balls in a row is so much more exciting than an offside call.

If that ever happened the Cubs would lose one nill.
