No doubt soccer is the worlds most popular sport, that doesn't mean it doesn't suck, and that doesn't mean that one player is more well known than a sport as a whole.
so the world likes a sucky sport?

If you ask me, I would say yes. Just because something is popular, doesn't mean it's good. (see: Justin Bieber and the Iowa Hawkeyes)

Yes, I believe that is the point I am trying to make.

    Hey, the Germans liked Hitler.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. that sucks, enjoy the jealously of a sport that will always be more popular than baseball I suppose.

Yes...I am green with jealous rage of 22 men running back and forth for 90 minutes, busting their *** for a 0-0 ball game.

Except those are all Americans playing pro baseball (an American dominated sport).

I think a better example is if your roommates know who Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Usain Bolt, Wayne Gretzky, and Shaun White are.

I agree, those are great examples. Yes, they do know who they are. However, in the United States, those 5 figures are more popular than Beckham, sports wise.

Finally. It's long past time that somebody Godwin'd this thread and put it out of its misery.

I think most sports fans get fed up with soccer when they finally see a moment of "excitement" occurring only to have it whistled dead because it was "offsides." I know if they somehow revised that rule or took it out I would like it a lot more.

Oh yeah, and as mentioned before, the ridiculous pansy-like flopping that the players do...it leads to zero credibility when they actually DO take a hit.

I thought this thread was about soccer, not the NBA?

I think it does in fact mean in doesn't suck, but as to the rest of that, none of what I said was really was a serious argument. But just look at the comment above, and it's another person that knows who Beckham is that shouldn't, and it's not because of his soccer stardom. Everyone knows Beckham, whether it's soccer related or not.
