Re: MAILBAG: Will the Cyclones win 6 in 2013?

While I agree with you that our fan base's perception of the backup quarterback is often delusional, I think it is due in large part to the way we have seen the last few staffs develop quarterbacks. Over the past few years we've seen a pattern develop in which we establish a quarterback, they are replaced if they struggle, the new guy comes in and does well until he beings to struggle, at which time the cycle starts over again. I'm not necessarily suggesting CPR pull a Ferentz and stick with a particular player no matter how bad he struggles, but at the same time there has developed a culture of cycling quarterbacks in-and-out of the starting job, especially in the last 4 years. As such, I think its fair for any fan to be skeptical of any of our quarterbacks being able to maintain the starting job for a long stretch of time.

Gotta win 3 of the first 4 games. If that happens, 6+ wins seems likely. Defense will always be fine under Wally and the offense can't be any worse IMO.

I agree that the last two years with Jantz, JB and SR the coaching staff has been willing to pull one QB for another if things arent going well. I think its obvious that for better or for worse the staff was trying to do something, anything to "spark" an anemic offense.

If you remember back to when AA was here if I remember correctly a lot of the fans were calling for Tiller. It didnt happen. The only time that Tiller played was when AA was not capable due to injuries or sickness etc.

Chris, you just went up even more in my book by not having watched Big Brother (and Survivor season one is the only one I watched in full also).

This summarizes dozens of threads and thousands of posts over the last few years:

Iowa State fans wanted Bret Meyer over Austin Flynn. Then they wanted Flynn. Then they wanted Austen Arnaud over Meyer. Then they wanted Jerome Tiller. Then Steele Jantz was the man. But why not play Barnett? No, we want Jantz back. PLAY SAM RICHARDSON. No, no, no. We want Rohach!!!!!

Re: MAILBAG: Will the Cyclones win 6 in 2013?

I pretty much agree that if we go 3-0 in non-con then we have a good shot at 6 total.

IMO the most telling stat of the year will be scoring offense. If we remain in the 20's (I last year we were about 24.something per game) I dont see any way that we go bowling because I expect that we will give up a few more pts this coming season than last year just based on youth on the defensive side of the ball. TCU, ISU and Kansas were the only B12 teams in the 20's last year and suprisingly enough they finished ranked 8,9,10 in the league.

Lets hope Sammy and the skill position players make a huge jump with the help of Coach K and the revamped O-line

I think this also reflects the coaching staff's thought process the last 4 years as well.

CW, I thought you had us in 4th before Rodriquez left KSU and Kane came to ISU. And you seem to make a good case for us beating Baylor, so why not take the next step and predict us to be third? Come on, be a Fanatic!

I think we're in for a loooong year on the defensive side of the ball. I hope I'm wrong.

Tusla is likely going to win 9 games this year again. They have Green coming back and their running backs. If Wally somehow finds out how to stop their running game, I think we win.
