    Future Defensive Leadership

As we are well aware, AJ Klein and Jake Knott are now in the NFL (If you didn't, why are you here?). I would guess that next year, Jacques Washington and Jeremiah George will take the reins and lead the defense. After they graduate, who is going to be in control? We are uncertain about the cornerbacks and defensive line and I have no idea who will play safety. The future starting linebackers are also some what up in the air. Someone please enlighten me on this

Luke Knott will be a captain before he graduates

    Re: Future Defensive Leadership

It would be hard to exactly tell who the future leaders will be until the time comes but some promising players are Rogers, Knott and T.J. Mutcherson to name a few.

    Re: Future Defensive Leadership

You hope a guy like David Irving takes an active role with the leadership in the trenches. I suspect Jevohn Miller will be right there in the thick of things as well. Beyond that, we will have to see who steps up this year to have a better idea.

    Re: Future Defensive Leadership

I think Rogers and Knott are safe bets. I would also like someone on the line to step and be a leader at least by example. Someone like Brandon Jensen or a younger guy like Aka. I think we have been a little spoiled in this regard with Knott, Klein and Washington assuming the "field general" roles over the past few years, interesting to see who fills in.

    Re: Future Defensive Leadership

George and Miller starting at MIKE and WILL with Brackens playing SAM/nickel. Washington and Broomfield are the safeties. Watson will be 1 starting CB and the other spot will most likely be Lynn or Richardson. Depth is plentiful in the secondary. Depth at LB is young, inexperienced but talented.

I think the DL starters will be Irving, Jensen, Woods and Scott, but will rotate with at least 6 others. If Coe can come in and contribute right away, that will be a huge bonus.

George, Wash, Broom and Watson will need to provide the senior leadership. And don't underestimate a Burnham coached defense either. Just because we lose K, K and McD doesn't mean we are screwed.

I think lots of people underestimate Brackins. The guy frolics around in a blow up ballerina suit at basketball games. If that doesn't scream leader then I don't know what does.

We had a guy like that and he was the polar opposite of a leader.

    Re: Future Defensive Leadership

Our depth at DL is relatively thin and I wouldn't say that we have any high caliber players as of yet. They have potential, but potential counts for nothing when you are playing against Lache Seastrunk and the Texas and Oklahoma running backs
