Question for Google Calendar users / Google Calendar Alternatives
I've been trying to use Google Calendar to send out event reminders to a group of folks, many of whom don't have a Gmail-hosted email address. It appears that while Google Calendar will send out an event invitation to any email address, it will only send an email event reminder to Gmail-hosted email addresses. None of the non-Gmail hosted users get reminders, they only get invitations. We've checked spam/junk email filters, and this isn't the problem.
In searching around, it seems that Google Calendar used to send out email reminders to all email addresses, but there was some subtle change in Google Calendar, and it doesn't anymore. So folks have come up with workarounds to where they email the reminders to a Gmail account and then set up filters in that Gmail account to forward Calendar event reminders to non-Gmail hosted email accounts. Sounds messy and cumbersome.
So, the first question would be for Google Calendar users (free/non-business version): are you able to send email event reminders to non Gmail-hosted email addresses? If so, is there some special setting somewhere that enables this?
Secondly, does anyone have recommendations on an alternate to Google Calendar that can send email event reminders? There seem to be quite a few Google Calendar alternates out there, so a pointer to a good one would be much appreciated.
