That guy knocking the quality of players we are getting from Detroit clearly didn't see that Monte was Mr. Michigan basketball this year.

Strange article, but probably talking about Dom Buckley, who played at Iowa State under McDermott before transferring to Toledo.

Dorsey-Walker had an offer to Indiana and Michigan, but sure we'll take the "throw away" player that Michigan/MSU werent interested in. Monte Morris was Mr.basketball, pretty sure the guy who was second to him is going to MSU right? So whatever, we'll take the throw away players I guess.

Pretty sure Monte had a scholly offer from Michigan too. They had one PG scholly offered to two people. Luckily for us, Walton signed with Michigan first, leaving Monte to us. But don't tell me it was a throw away guy that only MAC teams wanted, because if Monte signed first, he would be at Michigan. (although I know the MAC and big 10 are indistinguishable in football)

So go on with your naive thinking that these guys are just throw away guys. We'll take them. Throw away guys are always top 150 guys.

    Re: Detroit Connection

Realistically teams like MSU and Michigan aren't going to lose many players to us from their home state and they have some VERY good "throw away" players that we'll gladly take, so I'm not going to get too worked up about this article.

One of the guys comments in the article:

tigers182 - Jun 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM Watch their backs? These are guys Michigan and Michigan State aren’t even offering. They’re guys MAC teams are half-heatedly offering. And the Spartan “transfer” was kicked off the team.

Most people in Michigan arent that high on Monte, and claim the only reason he got mr basketball was due to politics and that it was undeserved. thats just what ive read on other message boards, I dont have any first hand knowledge. Im glad to have him.

I'm thinking an opportunity to play anywhere but the absolute worst city in the country is an easy sell. Nice work Mann.

Ya, I have heard that too, but I'm not buying it. If it was politics involved in the decision, wouldn't they pick a guy staying in state for college to win the award, I mean IIRC, something like the 10 out of the last 12 Mr. basketball guys were signed and have stayed to play at Michigan or MSU.

I cant remember the exact deal, but I think it had something to do specificly with the high school he went to or his coach or something. Again, im not saying he didnt deserve it, I have no idea.

I do know that he didnt have the most first place votes, he had the most 2nd by 2 and most 3rd place by like 40.

It's totally possible these offers were somewhat conditional. Unless anybody has said otherwise, but I haven't seen that.
