Re: CFTV: CCL highlights from June 30, 2013

SDW struggled shooting last night but watching him back down Bubu and hit that fader was pretty awesome...shows how much strong he's gotten since last year

Putting stats in the system now...he was 2-for-12 from 3-point range if you were wondering.

SDW might be one of those guys that has the ability to take over a game but not quite as consistent a player to be the go to guy next season. But come sophomore/junior/senior year, look out. Thomas looks like he will be a solid, consistent shooting guard for many years that can also create his own shot and get to the rim. The battle for starting SG between those 2 will be fun. I really hope Edozie can earn some minutes as a Big defender and rebounder, with an understanding that can take some shots down low if he has isolation one on one but if not, passes out to shooters. He is obviously a good athlete.

If you ask the basketball analysts outside the state of Iowa I think you would be surprised to hear their responses. Iowa was pegged as a preseason top 5 team by one ESPN analyst and is ranked in the vast, vast majority of preseason top 25 polls

I can see SDW shredding man-to-man defenses and Thomas exploiting spots in zone defenses.

What a great problem to have right?

You can tell that much from a couple of minutes of CCL clips? :)

Mostly from watching them Wed night (and SDW last summer).

Why do you say that? Thomas is way more than a catch and shoot 3pt specialist.

Re: CFTV: CCL highlights from June 30, 2013

Bluford's dunk was awesome. Dude is a straight up athlete. After going last night, I came away very impressed with Bluford and Nader both. Bluford's got a serious vertical with every shot and he can penetrate extremely well. His defense needs work however. Hogue will be a good all-around role player. He hung alright with Niang defensively. I see Edozie as our new Booker, but with a little more effort. Needs to get a little more polished.

There's not going to be much competition between Thomas and SDW. Thomas is the better player. Granted, SDW had a particularly bad day, but Thomas is a noticeable step above him all around. SDW needs to beef up to play at this level. It was hard to get a good read on Morris. He plays very selflessly and mostly served as distributor for the majority of the game. His ballhandling was fun to watch at times. It was only at the end of the game when his team was out of it that he started chucking up shots. Very impressive from an offensive standpoint all-around.

That is what I mean by exploiting spots in the zone. He gets in the right spot so that he can catch and shoot.

I have been to the cap city league on two separate nights and have never even seen bluford try once to penetrate. I will be very happy if he has that in his arsenal I just have never seen it.

Nobody ever talks about Naz Long. Won't be surprised if he is starting SG at season's start with Thomas, SDW, and Bluford backing him up.

I really like Naz and also think he could end up starting especially if he keeps knocking down 3s

Agreed. Naz Long is legit. Only reason we didn't see him last year is because of our depth at guard. I've always heard he was more of a point guard than anything, but that's not really what I saw.
