    New way of recruiting

    Ames tribune article.

Instead of just defensive staff pouring over tape of potential defensive recruits, all the coaches met and talked over every position group this spring. It resulted in a more efficient recruiting process that let coaches know exactly what to look for in a recruit.

not sure how this is all that revolutionary? our recruiting coordinator now asks the position coaches if they like potential recruits?

No, offense and defense both look at a kid, if I read it correctly (previously, only offense looked at offense recruits and vice versa).

When I read the article, it may it sound like recruitment was poorly coordinated previously, but it is hard to believe that Shane goes out and recruits a player just to have other coaches turn him down because of some obvious criteria. Surely it wasn't that bad before.

Previously a coach was assigned a region, would see a kid out of his coaching position (for example Shane Burnham recruiting a WR from Florida) and he would want to offer him, but the WRs coach or OC would veto it when they looked at film by themselves.

Now they watch film together so Shane can get a feel for the type of player offensive coaches want to offer and the process is streamlined.

Not revolutionary, but improved efficiency and overall cohesiveness is always a plus.

Exactly. It seems a little strange that coaches weren't talking with each other before.

I always assumed this was the deal before. Seems very common-sense.

Well, the author did write "pouring" rather than "poring"...
